moisuriser/night cream for allergic skin

have been suffering with a really itchy rash around my eyes for the last few weeks. It seems to disappear and then resurface at intervals, although I can't pinpoint it to any particular products I've been using. Went to the docs yesterday and he says it's contact dermatitis. I have to go 2 weeks without using any products at all except this emollient that he's subscribed. He's also given a steroid cream which seems to already be doing the trick. Once the two weeks have passed I guess I should try and start using products that are non-perfumed and good for allergic skin - does anyone have any suggestions? not sure which brands are perfumed and which are not.

I think a MNetter had something like that a while back and it was glittery eye shadow which turned out to be the culprit.

Are you after face cream or make-up recommendations?

facecream or nightcream. I'm pretty sure it was a cream that's causing it rather than makeup. Ironic that I spent a load of expensive eye creams and I've got the skin of an 80 year old around my eyes at the moment ! Is Clarins supposed to be non-allergic?

I'd suggest not trying 'products' as such for a while - you just don't know exactly which ingredient you may be reacting to and it's nigh on impossible to find out ime.

I've been using aqueous cream as a cleanser, make up remover and moisturizer for a good ten years now and it's never caused a reaction.
No glamorous packaging or 'feel-good' experience but I don't care - in fact, people regularly compliment me on my skin so I feel justified in spurning 'proper' skin cream.

Having said that, I occasionally try new creams, usually for a few weeks until the reaction starts again. Atm I'm using Holland & Barrat's moisturizer with glycolic acid and it's been fine so far - but I think I'm starting to come out of my sensitive phase as I can now wear make up again.

If you're having itchy red eyes it sounds as if you should stick to something as bland and inert as poss.

Btw, I have an almost immediate reaction to Clarins - they can call themselves hypo-allergenic and have certificates to prove it all they like, but it's worth nothing if you as an individual are allergic to just one ingredient.

And I've never found an eye cream that hasn't caused a reaction.

(I've just remembered, Lavera have a sensitive range, sold in good health food shops, but I found one cream a bit 'heavy' and the other too 'light' - you might like them.

Yes I would either stick to something like aqueous cream as suggested or go to a big branch of Boots and see if they will give you some samples of the various brands to try? Or Space NK if there is one near you has lots of the upmarket brands.
