Foundation Recommendations Please - for good coverage on bad skin...

I am looking for a really good foundation to give good coverage on blemished skin.

I've used various Clinique foundations for years, but they always seem to be a very sheer cover. I need one that covers really well.

I have got quite pale skin and blonde hair so needs to be one that looks good on pale skin aswell.

Any advice?

its not posh like Clinique but i like Max Factors colour adapt. Dont try the new one they have out the natural shade is about 5 shades darker

DawnAS · 04/02/2010 19:49

Thank only. Do they do various shades? I'm guessing I should try one on my wrist before I buy it...

I was rather spotty due to some medication, benefit do some war paint, it's thick and powdery but with the concieler(spelling?) it hid them.

Have you been to the GP if you have bad skin? Maybe you could get something??

Hi Dawn . Laura Mercier is great for pale skins, and I think her range was originally specifically formulated for people with acne and other types of blemish. I use a tinted moisturiser, but her foundations and powders are fab too. I would go to a counter and have them work out the best combination of products for your skin. It doesn't come cheap, but does last ages, as with most good quality products.

See you over on Bonkers soon - been really hectic, but meaning to pop in...

I have acne and acne scars, the only thing that works for me is Estee Lauder double wear with the right blending I don't always need concealer . I also have extremely pale skin not all brads do a pale enough colour for me but this is great.

Thanks all for the tips. I will go into the local department store tomorrow and see whether I can get something decent!

Hi Daisyj, it'll be lovely to chat again!

xx

PS: Estee Lauder, Laura Mercier and Benefit. Right!!

I used to have a lot of blemishes (also have very pale skin) and found that heavier foundations often made 'em look worse; I would try samples whenever possible before you commit to anything. Made some expensive mistakes!

I had, and still have, much better luck staying with a sheer foundation and just combining it with a super-powered, really opaque concealer to very very carefully make the blemishes disappear. It only works if the colours are exactly right and that was the tricky bit for me Clinique's lightest shades of foundation and concealer were the wrong tone I think that was the real problem -- so did not disappear into my skin enough to really hide anything. Same with lots of other brands, even some posh ones; the pale shades always seem too pinky or too orangey.

If you can stretch to it, Laura Mercier is def worth a try, as is Bobbi Brown. The range of shades and warm/cool tones is just loads, loads better and they will be good about giving you a little tiny amount in a pot to try at home in familiar lighting/wear for a day before you buy.

Ooh, be wary of Benefit, I've heard lots of people say their foundation is disappointing. Colour-wise it's quite limited too.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 04/02/2010 20:09

Only try benefit as a last resort, it was the trowel or the spots

The GP might have something if it's spots you need to sort out, maybe you need some antibiotics??

domesticslattern · 04/02/2010 20:23

Another vote for Laura Mercier here. My skin sounds a lot like yours, and it's the best I have found (and believe me, I've shopped around!).

Sparkletastic · 04/02/2010 20:28

Laura Mercier fab as are Bobbi Brown foundation sticks - and latter are so easy to apply and blend and last for ages.

sungirltan · 04/02/2010 20:34

benefit foundation is a weird yellow colour.

i like bourgois 10 hour sleep effect but i also liked clinique superbalanced makeup
