to GHD or not - your hair straightener opinions

Are GHD's really worth all the extra expense?

My hairdresser was raving about them the other day, and my hair does look fabulous after she used them, but they are so much more expensive than other brands!

Is it worth me persuading DH that i really need a set for my birthday, or can i get away with a cheaper brand? (And is there anywhere online that i can get some cheaper ones if GHD is the way to go?)

They are absolutely worth every single penny, but particularly if you have kinky/frizzy/wavy hair naturally (as most women have) - they will save you so much time, not to mention make your hair manageable, shiny and generally lovely.
I sometimes skip the blow-drying, go to bed with damp hair, get up and just go over it with the GHDs

You could get away with cheaper ones if you have very short hair, or very thin hair.

Mine were £110ish, but have used them every day for at least 4 years and still going strong....not a bad outlay really.

Agree, worth every penny.

Personally I wouldn't use them every day as they can be damaging, but they do give a sleek look that no other straightener can give.

I have tried many brands over the years, but nothing comes close to these.

I always go by what salons use - ie buy the same hairdryer etc.

I have not been in a salon in the past 5 years that has not used GHDs.

Go on - treat yourself!

worth every penny. Also I only need to do my hair after I wash it, it lasts until next wash so not too much damage.

I disagree, I have had GHD's and thought they were ok but when they eventually died I was recommended Kodo's by my hairdresser. I managed to pick up a bargain pair for £10 as they were the previous years model, they straighten my very wavy hair in one stroke and the straightness lasts until I need to wash my hair. I wouldn't go back to GHD's after these and will definately get another pair when these die!

Well, having used a pair of Andrew Collinge (?) ones for years, I have just got a pair of GHD's.

They are better - heat up really fast and get really hot so it doesn't take as long for better results, even on my really thick long hair.

You do have to blow dry your hair first, though.

Also, the normal GHD's are not the same as the super-wide ones in the salon. Not that that seems to be a problem for me.

Definitely worth every penny! I've been using them for 5 years, almost every day, as I have naturally frizzy hair and my hair stays straight after using them. They are quick to use as you don't need to keep going over the same section of hair. Treat yourself

I think they're worth it too. But my dd got some of those wet to straight ones by somebody or other, I forget, for Xmas and she reckons they are not bad at all. She doesn't do the wet to straight thing, but she does use them as normal straighteners.

Thanks for the responses. GHD's it is then, i guess! I've found some on a website called justbeautifully.co.uk that are going for £99.75 rather than the usual £130, might be worth a look.

Yes its worth it, I could never use anything else now.
Have had mine for 8 years this year and would be lost without them
