Where sells outdoorsy/urban but not sporty clothes?

Trying to find a nice gift for my friend. She is not sporty as such, but she walks her dogs every day and for long walks at weekends all year round, so wears a lot of outdoorsy clothes, eg. fleeces, hoodies.
She is quite girly and likes florals and bright colours.

I'm not looking at North Face etc (too expensive, and she's not a mountaineer, it's only our local beach), a bit more high street. Have tried brands like Roxy, Animal and O'Neill as they have lots of funky fleeces but their sizing is very small and she is about a 16/18.

Fat Face looks a bit rubbish this season, but I guess that's the kind of thing I'm after - but what shops/sites are similar to it, that could fit the bill?

Have hidden interest here myself too as I've just started maternity leave and as my current wardrobe consists of pencil skirts and blouses for work (long since stopped wearing), skinny jeans and high boots for not work, and nasty maternitywear for last few months, I could prob do with an update too! Any suggestions gratefully received.

Joe Browns is v teenagey though, isn't it? Small teenagers?

I think Joules might me the one you need. Or Boden?

squeaver · 01/02/2010 20:57

Uniqlo.

fortyplus · 01/02/2010 20:57

Yeah but Joules is expensive - last time i bought a polo shirt it was £39

MrsCurly · 01/02/2010 20:59

another vote for Howies

stressheaderic · 01/02/2010 21:30

Just looked at Gul - I like some of the stuff on there for me!

My friend is 30, but sometimes dresses older. Will peruse Joules....Boden and its prices can do one.
We used to have a Uniqlo store here, then it closed - or did they all close?

stressheaderic · 02/02/2010 10:39

I went in TK Maxx for the first time in a while last week but it was pretty crap to be honest. And not as cheap as it used to be, I'm sure.

Why have I never heard of Howies?! Some nice things there...
Seasalt - a tiny bit 'safe'?

is a 34 y.o size 12 mother of 3 too old to wear this Gul skirt?

dexter73 · 02/02/2010 18:05

I'm a 36 yo size 12 mother of 1 and i would certainly wear it. If you have good legs get them out!

PoppityPing · 02/02/2010 20:48

39 yo size 10/12 mother of 3 here agreeing.

stressheaderic · 03/02/2010 17:27

Absolutely to denim skirt. Tights and boots - look fab.

Still proving a bit fruitless in my search, it's something like this I'm after,
www.amazon.co.uk/Joe-Browns-Boutiquey-Top/dp/B002NQDJ9I
comfy but a bit pretty, but most companies only go upto a 16...any other suggestions?
