My new Toast Athlone boots are amazing

They're like Spanx for the calf muscles.

Really big and tight elasticated panel, stretch all the way round my 43cms calves and hold them in so they look thin.

Totally bargainous now only £74, I paid £95

very nice. but no use for my scrawny 31cm calf i fear

LaurieFairyCake · 01/02/2010 16:03

That's the point though, they stretch (or not) to fit. As they've become 'stretched' today with me wearing them I can't take them off and measure them for you unstretched but I remember thinking that they looked way too small.

Would be awful if they were all welly like on you.

TheElephant · 01/02/2010 16:04

how much elastic is there - all teh awy aounrd?

brimfull · 01/02/2010 16:05

nice
does the elastic stretch like this V at the back when you re wearing them?

LaurieFairyCake · 01/02/2010 16:08

No, the stretch is at the side but the panel is so wide is doesn't look like they're stretched at all, it's a very thick panel - not like those cheapy ones you can get (which I would have expected at that full price of 245)

OP posts:
brimfull · 01/02/2010 16:12

so it doesn't look like you've squeezed your calves in?
no calf escaping out the top like muffin top?

sorry for the interrogation

FimBOW · 01/02/2010 16:18

Same questions as ggirl, all that fat (mine not yours) must escape somewhere, surely?

LaurieFairyCake · 01/02/2010 17:34

Nope, because the panel starts just above the foot it's held in all the way up but is not so squashed that it squeezes out the top as the top flares out slightly anyway.

The panel is about 4 inches across and the full length of the boot minus the foot.

Well I've ordered them. Will report back.

shandyleer · 01/02/2010 18:35

How did you find the sizing Laurie?

dairymoo · 01/02/2010 19:41

KristinaM - I tried some of these on the other day and, as a fellow 31cm-er, they were very welly-ish. Such a shame as they are lovely, and a bargain, but they really didn't look good on my skinny pins.

faustina · 01/02/2010 22:02

oh I hope they'll be ok for me as mine are arriving tomorrow! I am about 35cm though - please say they were only a little big dairymoo!!

laughterlines · 01/02/2010 22:19

Are these quite narrow on the foot?

My feet are wide and I hate it when you can see the shape of my toes at the side in boots/shoes. Are these quite soft so they would go out of shape easily?

LaurieFairyCake · 01/02/2010 22:42

They seem to run true to size for length. I'm not sure about width as I have quite narrow feet though the suede is not soft, it's quite firm and shaped and I can't see my toes in them at all.

They sound great. One last thing, do you know what the policy for returns is? I can't seem to find it on the website. I am wondering if I could return to the shop if they are not right?

Realise you might not know everything about Toast

LaurieFairyCake · 01/02/2010 23:12

I know nothing about Toast - first time I've actually bought from them.

I wouldn't have been able to help you anyway - I never send anything back I buy on the internet

OP posts:
Mumsnut · 02/02/2010 12:59

I think you have 28 days to return.

Beware though - I just ordered, and though I clicked on the size 39, a 40 appeared in my basket. This happened again, then on the third try, it was a size 37! On the fourth attempt, a size 39 landed (at last!) and I checked out quickly before it could disappear ...

faustina · 02/02/2010 14:16

oh bugger - they are MUCH too wide for me in the calf, and far too high in the leg also. Another expensive return. Even the Ally Capellino belt is too big, though it's lovely leather.

what a shame

laughterlines · 02/02/2010 21:32

I ordered them in the end and was also tempted by a pair of lilac pumps. I hope they fit. Did yours arrive quickly?

Shame they don't fit you faustina

aarghhelp · 03/02/2010 06:11

Inspired by this I have ordered them too, as I think they will go vv well with the knee length skirts I got to go into Spring . And am tall person with big calves, so they might fit! Have vision of self trotting round with neat suede encased calves, wait to see reality.

I have some black boots in some ways similar, but they are over-the-knee, from the last time it was fashionable, Russell and Bromley. They are rather gorgeous, but a bit too erm, dramatic and err, long for work.

KristinaM · 04/02/2010 11:45

thanks dairymoo

squeaver · 05/02/2010 14:23

OH. MY. GOD. They have arrived and they are FAB!!!

Excellent quality and really, really slimming. And LONG in the leg which makes such a difference on a larger calf. They're all the way up to my knees.

I put them on and zipped them straight up - no straining or pulling. Have just done the same with jeans tucked in. They won't work on skinny calves, no way.

My only slight quibble is the stretchy panels make them look a wee bit odd from the back. But from the front and the side, LFC is bang on - like spanx.

I think I even prefer them to my Duos (sacrilege!!)

Thanks, so much, LFC you large calved, stylish wonder!

Hi, got them, they do fit!

But I am wondering whether they might be a bit uncomfortable at the top/ankle with prolonged wear.

I find that with long boots the zip tends to curve into the ankle sometimes and rub.

Those of you who have them, are them comfy to wear all day?

laughterlines · 05/02/2010 23:38

Mine arrived today and they fit well but I'm not sure the style is really me - they are quite smart, not what I would normally go for.

They are a good fit though and my calfs are about 42/43 inch.

I don't suppose any one wanted a size 6 and couldn't get a pair?
