Oh Stylish ones - I need fab dress for hubby's 40th Party

Stylelostinlabour · 30/01/2010 20:53

Help me please...

I need a fab dress from hubby's 40th Party - I'm 5'8, size 14/16 brown hair, blue eyes.

Have stomach and arm issues but everything else is fine (ish) - dont suit black but every other colour is fine.

Needs to be fab as hubby has a friend who wife will try and out dress everyone and I don't want to look like a bag of spuds tied in middle like usual!

Any help would be so much appreciated

Love the Karmel Dress
Love the Ruby Dress at Ascension
Love this one "oh oh oh blow her away!"

Love the JamesLakened Dress although not so sure on jersey like material, think something more structured?

And love the colour of the Noli Dress

Now what I am to do! Which one do I order?

definitely the blow her away dress. before i do. it is just gorgeous.

PoppityPing · 31/01/2010 19:25

Hi Style, I think it depends what type of do it is, and what else you want to wear, what colours suit you etc

The Karmel dress is very pretty with interesting detail, but you would be showing your arms so may need another layer?

The Ruby dress is classic and bright- really stands out but still chic imo

The blow her away is fab, again really stands out, especially if you have great legs and will wear some killer heels, but is less classic, more fun I think?

The Noli dress is a gorgeous colour, but could possibly look the least dressed up of the lot of them, I think you would really need some funky accessories with it.

You could wear the James one with some spanx type underwear to give you more feeling of structure, it is understated chic and would look blinding with some sock it to 'em shoes and jewellery.

So, it depends what you want to convey ir

If it helps you could wear the Karmel, James and the Noli in the daytime out to lunch, whearas the other two are more definite night out dresses to me. This may be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on your viewpoint.

Eeek! Haven't been much help there have I!

Stylelostinlabour · 31/01/2010 19:55

Hi
Well the party is in are house, and I have no shoes policy due to wooden floors so whatever dress I wear I wont need shoes, so I guess that either hinders and helps?

Its a drinks party really with about 20 close friends so nothing too mad but I want to look stunning for hubby (and not be out done by said glam skinny friend)

Have brown hair at moment but will go blonder for March as it's too dark on me.

Mina dress unusual so like that - I do unusual!

Like the Beautiful dress but have issue with empire line as makes me look about 8 months pregnant (suffer from bad post baby posture, must stand up straight and hold gut in

Thanks for all the fab dresses and websites, wish you could take me shopping!

If you like the Mina one, there website is here with more unusual ones.

PoppityPing · 31/01/2010 20:11

rather glam if you have nice shoulders.

O, I am obsessed, must go and do some jobs....

PoppityPing · 31/01/2010 20:25

All Saints too, although much of it is black/grey. But some really stand out and quirky dresses there

Stylelostinlabour · 31/01/2010 20:31

no dont go and do work - come and show me lots of lovely dresses and websites!

All Saints a little bit drab so me too much grey

Have put the ruby in the basket think will order tomorrow going to sleep on it!

Do you know what there sizing is like?

OP posts:
PoppityPing · 31/01/2010 21:53

No, I have had stuff from them from other designers but that is their own make. The size guide should be accurate in that case though I guess?

I love this bracelet to go with it

or lola rose look under final reductions at Brooke and Wave, or under bracelets at any of the chunky ones really! Lovely contrast colours with that dress.

PoppityPing · 31/01/2010 22:00

Have managed a proper link now wave

brooke

chunky nugget

luca

Heathcliffscathy · 01/02/2010 11:24

PoppityPing · 01/02/2010 11:25

Heathcliffscathy · 01/02/2010 11:31

ooooo, lovely. still prefer blow her away but ruby is v v nice.

PoppityPing · 01/02/2010 11:44

did you see the jewels sophable

Stylelostinlabour · 01/02/2010 14:24

Oh are you my long lost twin, I love all those links to bracelets will buy them all as i love stuff like this.

Will go back and look at blow her away dress again

OP posts:
Stylelostinlabour · 01/02/2010 14:27

I do like the blow me away dress but it does look rather short, I do have good legs but at 5'8 wonder where it will come, don't want to bend over and show bridgette Jones Pants would ruin the effect!

OP posts:
PoppityPing · 01/02/2010 14:56

Lol, I'm going to get one of them I think, the sale ones are a bit of a bargain too

Hope you have a great party, when is it?

Stylelostinlabour · 01/02/2010 17:43

Its not til March but I like to be organised!

Hate doing that made rush to find out for special occassion.

Off to Dublin this week so going to look out for Dresses and if I dont see anything then will order the Ruby and the bracelet, black tights and jobs done!
