Where to buy baby boy clothes???

New Mum here and just wondering where fellow mums of baby boys shop? I have NO IDEA where to even start looking! He's only 16 weeks at the moment and still very cute in babygrows but when he reaches an age to start wearing 'proper' clothes, where do I start? Online? The High Street?

Perhaps clothes that are a little different. I've seen a few things in TK Maxx but would appreciate your thoughts.

One condition; NOTHING with Tiger, Disney etc!

Many thanks

BabyGap is very nice, supermarkets often have nice stuff as well.

littledawley · 30/01/2010 19:44

I always loved (and still do) GAP and Boden for boys. They are bright, hard-wearing and quite cool. If money is an issue then look on ebay - I have sold so much Boden and Gap stuff that has been worn loads but is still in fab condition.

Next is good value and you can find some nice bits if you look beyond all the 'little monster' crap!

thatsnotmymonkey · 30/01/2010 19:47

Give Asda a wide berth then!

I like H&M for boys stuff, lots of basics l/sleeve s/sleeve t-shirts in lots of colours, stripes. Nice range of organic cotton stuff, not too trendy but cool jeans, cardis, hoodies etc. I also like Zara but is a bit expensive and Baby Gap, although can be a bit overpriced for what you get. Green Baby have very good stuff and have a few bits from there. Asos has a good range of baby clothes i think. Bigger Marks and Spencers too. If money is no object try Designers at Debenhams.

Trouble with boys clothes as you will start to find as your Ds gets bigger, its is stripes, stripes, stripes! Either that or cartoon characters, especially from the super markets! HTH

M&S usually do dungarees with poppers which are really good when baby starts crawling...
But you might find them expensive, then you can equally shop at Primark and Peacocks for stay at home days.

drosophila · 30/01/2010 19:49

and blue blue blue. H&M are the best I think.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of being an intensely frustrated mum of boy as you see all your friends with DDs dress them in gorgeous stuff

There have been many, many threads on this subject but personally I recommend:
Offline -
M&S - IF you get in at the very start of the season so spring clothes now. By the time you actually need them, there's nothing left. The bigger branches do Autograph for kids which has some nice stuff
John Lewis - they generally have nice things and in particular good socks for boys. Good colours.
Polarn O Pyret - this is a Swedish shop which doesn't have many UK branches but they have lovely kids clothes and brilliant sales
Online -
Boden - sales are a good time to buy if you baulk at paying £15 for a long sleeved top
White Company - pyjamas there are great
Kids should be kids - for plain and striped long sleeved tops in really nice quality cotton, they are the best in my experience.

Oh and while he is a baby, the babygap socks which fold over 3 times are the only ones I could ever get to stay on my DS1's feet! If you have friends in the US, get them to bring stuff over from babygap there because they have a much bigger range. And also Old Navy do some quite good basics for boys.

I loved Boots and H&M when my boys were small enough for them.

Next is alright if you don't mind seeing every other baby of the same age wearing the same thing. Gap is good quality but a bit overpriced, wait for the sales. Same with Boden.

nicolamumof3 · 30/01/2010 20:02

mum of three boys here!

i like next baby range, h&m, and m&s baby range for everyday.

special occasion baby boden (exc.quality and sells so well on ebay so buy with discount and you will prob almost make your money back!) baby gap. Danish makes smafolk, P.o.P, and toby tiger

also huge fan of www.snugglefeet.com for baby leather shoes just like inch blue, daisy roots etc but half the price.

oh also like designers debenhams and jojo.

maldivemoment · 30/01/2010 20:08

Awww, thanks for help!

Thatsnotmymonkey - you made me laugh out loud. He already has a few outfits which make him look like an extra from the prison scenes in The Shawshank Redemption!!!! They are kept for our staying at home days!

Will read with interest - keep 'em comin!

Should have mentioned - currently on Statutory Maternity Pay so £££ not really an option!

I don't mind the stripes, its the long sleeve pretend layered T-Shirts I can't stand. You can hardly find a T-shirt that isn't layered.

Prepare yourself for the furstration of shopping for boys as you push past the six aisles of pretty girls stuff to the one aisle containing combats, black tracksuit bottoms and 5 different 'I'm a little monster' T-shirts.

nicolamumof3 · 30/01/2010 20:24

oh i like No added sugar too fits my skinny ds2 well.

i have never found dressing my three boys boring or a chore!

thatsnotmymonkey · 30/01/2010 21:19

Oh I love dressing my DS too, I just remembered that I also have quite a lot of nice stuff from Monsoon for boys. It is made small which suits my skinny mini DS

Montifer · 30/01/2010 21:28

Frugi have lovely stuff and a great sale on at the moment (think it ends in a couple of days)

I also like H&M for babygrows and tops, although was very disappointed to learn that their 'baby' range only goes up to 18 months and the stuff for toddlers and older boys is covered in 'rough boy type stuff' motifs.

I like this site too.

I'm also a Gap sale shopper.

maldivemoment · 31/01/2010 12:52

Muchos Gracias to all of you!

Have bookmarked the web pages and spotted some lovely bits and bobs. Bring on the stripes...!

Zara have some great stuff for baby boys- not sure where you are as they're not available online, but some last year they had some great vintage inspired knitted rompers and really unusual boys stuff. I bought loads for my DD.
