Has anyone ordered anything from it for a 9 year old? Im not struck by it at all his year, needs to stop at aged 7 I feel. Will a 9 year old thank me for a pair of flared jeans or will she just throw them back at me. Are 70's flares in this year and skinny out?

they are just about to launch an older kids range - johnny b - apparently.

there are skinnies in lots of nice colours though

marialuisa · 28/01/2010 15:14

DD is nearly 9 and likes quite a lot of their stuff. The skinnies, longer length cardigans, lots of the shoes and a few of the tops. She's not keen on the typical Boden prints any more though. Fatface have a few ok bits if that helps.

bellissima · 28/01/2010 15:27

I get the basics for my elder DD (10) ie slim trousers, cut offs (or clamdiggers or whatever they call them) and yes longer slim cardis nice. But no print T shirts, Ts with little ribbons, 'hotchpotch' (ugh) or stripes - and lots of things a bit stripy this year. Yep we also go to FF.

kittya · 28/01/2010 18:18

Never tried FF. I quite like the slouchy jeans but low at the hips in the description. She doesnt have any hips and I dont think the stone wash effect would go down well. I must go and look again, I never noticed the straight jeans. I think the leggings look nice and she has the pumps from the winter sale which are practically the same in the new catalogue. Its a funny age, you dont want them to be a fashion victim but, god, who wants to wear the same clothes that you can get in aged two really?

I feel really fuddy-duddy reading this thread. I have never bought DD boden because I thought it looked too grown up. This year as she was going to be 9 I was going to buy her Boden. Now I'm thinking this is a huge mistake.

Keepo · 28/01/2010 19:31

My dd (10) doesn't like Boden anymore. I have gone back to buying things from Gap and we also get things from FF.

kittya · 28/01/2010 20:03

We have had quite afew bits from Zara but it is really expensive. Oh, thats a shame you have missed the boat. In mine and 9 year olds opinion Boden is for aged up to 7, unless your 9 year old likes to wear pinafores. I dont want to start going to New Look and Tammy Girl as I still have a certain amount of control!!! will defo try FF

MillyR- I think it's fine still (but am prepared to be considered a fuddy-duddy), certainly DD has friends that still wear hochpotch stuff, I think she and I are a bit tired of the prints as Boden has been her wardrobe staple for nearly 6 years! I find it very difficult to buy her anything on the high street (fabrics used as well as the styles) but can rely on Boden for now.

Does anyone have a code that's better than 10% off BTW?

newpup · 28/01/2010 21:12

DD1 is 10 nearly 11 and loves Boden. She loves the jeans, long sleeve tee-shirts and the strappy summer dresses.

I have stopped buying her the hotchpotch tops now as they do look a bit silly on her age group. She loves the pjs!

She also loves Monsoon and we have some Gap stuff. I like Gap jeans.

I had a look in John Lewis last week, have not looked there for a while and they had some really good older girls things.

I love joules but have not looked in Fatface for her yet.

vesela · 28/01/2010 22:05

Have a look at Bonaparte (see earlier thread) - I thought their things looked good for older girls.

vesela · 28/01/2010 22:09

i can't vouch for quality though...
