Superdrug and Boots

My DH has asked me to post on here after a very long time away...

He has got an interview at Superdrug next week and he has got to do a presentation on the the future of Health and Beauty retailing in the UK. He has asked me if I can hunt out some different opinions on this?

He would much appreciate any comments on this. And, I would appreciate him getting a job. The novelty of having a house husband has started to wear off....

Thank you!

the future of health and beauty should be more towards using real size models and less airbrushing! I'm pretty sure Gok Wan teamed up with super drug a while ago to find a model so I think that's something they embrace!

I'm sure he will have been checking out Verdict

That's not surprising (the Colleen thing), Superdrug has always positioned itself as being on the side of the consumer.

Years ago, they got a lot of publicity for trying to stock premium fragrance brands and not being allowed to and because Vogue wouldn't take their ads. It was good work.

There's lots of areas where they could keep campaigning although Dove has really taken the high ground with their Real Women campaign.

DH is off to the British Library tomorrow to read some Verdict stuff.

Definitely agree that real size models should be used.

Also the make-up gurus on the web/youtube - they are a great way of promoting beauty products. A lot of them do reviews and recommendations and I have bought a few things just by watching a few videos so there is a lot of potential there. Some gurus are getting near a million views on their videos.

Also I think there is a lack of customer loyalty to one particular brand, my mum would have bought all her make up from the one counter whereas these days we like to buy different products from different brands.

squeaver · 27/01/2010 17:24

yy definitely a democratisation of make-up with open counters etc.

this might not be totally related, but there's one thing in all beauty shops that I really miss in the UK. It is the independent advice from someone who knows all the brands, but doesn't care which one you buy. In my country we have lots of smaller shops which sell all brands. You can get independent advise from the assistants, as their salary/bonus doesn't vary regardless of what brand you buy. Over here, I walk around places like Boots, Superdrug and there's no one to advise you. And then if you go into Selfridges, every little counter lady wants to sell you her stuff (which is of course the best). I suppose SpaceNK is kind of the shop I am referring to, but their choice is quite limited.

Don't forget that we have an aging population and that more skin regimes will be trying to tap into that market. This ties in with the Dove "Real Beauty" campaign.

On the health side of things the government is pushing self care and will continue to do so.

It means that more people will be seeking health advice in community pharmacies.

He might want to have a v quick look at RPSGB.org to look at the pharmacy contract and enhanced services.

Sorry
