Jane Austen type nightdress

I've been having a Jane Austen DVD-fest and want a nightdress like the one Marianne wears in the BBC version of Sense and Sensibility - white and gathered around the neck and very ample. Any ideas?

You must have looked ravishing .

I think I want mine in very very pale pink... with some kind of pattern in the weave...

Did you have a bonnet?

No, I didn't have a bonnet.

Are you ok, Bonsoir? Something feels not quite right about your posts. But perhaps it's just me in a slightly peculiar mood.

Night. I hope you find your nightie.

Not regency, but I see you in this with fluffy mules?

Powellcraft have some period-style nighties, but they seem to be a trade supplier only.
www.fishnets-lingerie.co.uk sell them, and I sometimes see them in gift shops.
And I know a stall in an antiques market local to me that sells originals; I'm sure there must be lots more around the country.

I have been smiling at this thread and then considering buying this for a future daughter, and then been horrified at things like this.

My mother once gave me one of those billowing Marianne nightgowns and actually they are not tangly at all, they're very oddly cool in summer and cosy in winter.

VintageGardenia · 27/01/2010 10:45

Although I don't think you will really be concerned about how practical it is Bonsoir so I suppose that's not a particularly useful post!

Bonsoir · 27/01/2010 10:47

I'm absolutely fine!

I think DD would like one of those straw bonnets - she loves ribbons, and it would be a great excuse for buying some really expensive pretty wide ribbon! And one of the little girl Regency dresses would make a great party dress for the summer for her...

No, I wouldn't say that practicality was at the forefront of my considerations on this thread!

Though I rather liked the aprons that Marianne, Elinor and their mother wore in the BBC Sense & Sensibility, and ripped off in a hurry in the kitchen as soon as any eligible man showed up on his horse before perching in the sitting room!
