Right, have decided that the time has come and I cannot get away with wearing minimal make-up anymore and am hitting dept. store tomorrow...

But don't really know what it is I need to invest in

I have clear skin, but I tend to look a bit pale sometimes and my furrowed brow is REALLY starting to show now (you know, fine lines and wrinkles round the brow area)

I don't use foundation or primer or any sort of covering product. Is this what I need to address this problem area?

Can go to Boots or Debenhams and don't mind spending a bit if it's worth it

TIA!

noddyholder · 26/01/2010 20:38

Get a creamy peach colour eyeliner for the inner eye makes you look fab! Will find out who makes it and post in a minute

notnowbernard · 26/01/2010 20:39

Strobe cream, wow

I am truly uninitiated in this make-up game

The Chanel thing, what di I do with that? Is it a foundation?

OP posts:
cornsilk · 26/01/2010 21:00

yes it's a foundation. Get a foundation brush as well.

cornsilk · 26/01/2010 21:02

I have been using Laura Mercier mineral make up - tis good for day time. I also love laura mercier tinted moisturiser for day and both together are fab.

notnowbernard · 26/01/2010 21:05

?primer - will go to Lancome counter
Foundation - The Chanel one or again will ask at Lancome
Decent brush
Eyeliner
New mascara (won't go megabucks on that though)
Pinky coloured blush as opposed to bronze ones

ANy more additions needed?

How much is this going to cost

OP posts:
cornsilk · 26/01/2010 21:07

see if there's an offer on a lancome counter and you'll get some little freebies. Then you can get lancome primer and mascara.

notnowbernard · 26/01/2010 21:15

Will look out for freebies

Is this going to bankrupt me?

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 26/01/2010 21:18

I much prefer a cheek stain/tint to cream blusher, lasts much longer and looks more atural imo.

Chanel mascara is the best I have ever used. I don't rate their foundation, find it quite heavy. I use a tinted mouisuriser by Lancome. Whatever you get make sure it has an SPF.

Get some tweezermans and pluck brows and buy a box of frownies for that frown line they really do work.

notnowbernard · 26/01/2010 21:20

Where can I get the Frownies from?

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 26/01/2010 21:22

I got mine on line, just google frownies and you'll find them. You will be amazed I tell ya!

notnowbernard · 26/01/2010 21:28

Dr do they really work?

Have just Googled. Am tempted

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 26/01/2010 21:32

Really!

If you used them every night the effects would be amazing - i can never be arsed to put the on ever night. But when I do remember to use I am amazed every time i peel it off. The effects wear off as the day goes on depending on what kind of day you have.

I keep mening to use mine more, but alwys use for parties/spesh occassions.

zazen · 26/01/2010 21:34

If you have good skin and are pale - why not just use a bronzer?
It sounds like you are just concerned with your frown wrinkle.

I sometimes use clear sellotape (magic tape) for an hour or two at night to remember not to frown, if I've been working on image editing or something and I'm squinting at pixels! Much cheaper than frownies.

lilylolo.co.uk does lovely blusher and bronzer, foundation, eye colour, etc while being good to your skin, and has a SPF of 15.

yoga is brilliant also for wrinkles and training your facial muscles not to frown - you could try meditation also.
Become aware of your face and your muscles in between your brows, and learn to relax them.

notnowbernard · 26/01/2010 21:48

I've ordered them

Will hold the Dr personally responsible if my brow remains raisin-like in 3m time

It's not just the pale-ness, Zazen, my skin needs 'boosting' and I'd like it to look smoother and more refreshed

I think I understand what you mean - I feel so washed out myself! Disturbed nights and erratic eating habits do not = radiant skin .

You lot are an inspiring bunch, I will be making more of an effort tomorrow rather than just thinking to hell with it all, my companion for most of the day is only 7 months old and he thinks I'm fabulous!

I will also be booking myself a facial as the last one I had (far too long ago...) made me feel fabulous. Dim and distant memory but definitely worth recapturing

Cyb · 26/01/2010 23:18

what about a half decent fake tan for face to enliven

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/01/2010 08:03

Yes agree Benefit a load of nonsense. All packaging, no trousers.

You may be lucky Bernard with special offers - Lancome do really good offers which usually include a juicy tube (lipgloss), a mascara perhaps and some eyeshadow. lancome eyeshadow very good imo.

Also, what you need is some cream blush, I don't much like powder as I have dry skin and it makes me look papery. Best cream blush I have bouight is the Tesco Make Up ones - they are in little pots in about 3 colours and cost £4 or so. Really excellent texture.

You have your eyebrows threaded, however I have found that my eyebrows have faded with age (am only bloody well 31 how did that happen?) so I colour them in with powder, you can get some good kits which have powders and a nifty little brush (Chanel do on which I covet but I have got a set from Loreal) - defining your eyebrows really does frame your face I find.

So, foundation, eyebrows, nude eyeshadow, mascara, blusher, lipgloss. Think that'll do for starters.

DrNortherner · 27/01/2010 09:27

I await your feedback on the frownies

notnowbernard · 27/01/2010 13:18

Oh thankyou all for your inspiration...

Have returned from town considerably poorer

Frownies are ordered and on their way... will report back but am feeling hopeful!

Because I ordered them I decided to hold off on the primer. If the Frownies are a dismal failure I shall give it a go

Nobody on the Lancome counter for ages, so ended up being bamboozled dazzled by a (genuinely) nice girl on the Chanel counter. She was very helpful and applied some Vitalumiere for me which looked and felt great. Added some lovely pinky creamy blush - I couldn't believe how well it went on and how natural it looked - left my skin looking all rosy, hurrah!

Did well on a 3 for 2 offer with some Maybelline stuff - a mascara reduced from £12 to £9, a natural lipstick which darkens my lips just a touch so it makes them look more 'there' (IYKWIM) and a neutral, beige (sounds crap but looks good on) cream eye-shadow which is slightly sparkly

Feel all better now . For about a day, I expect...

Thanks again (GetOrf, take your point about the eyebrow thing, will look next time I'm in town)

noddyholder · 27/01/2010 13:40

I used frownies and they were ok but it didn't last !Although you can get teh same effect with a strip of micropore tape!I wear it sometimes in teh day if I am alone!

notnowbernard · 27/01/2010 13:45

Noddy, if the effects last for just a few hours when I'm out I'll be happy

Will try using them overnight and see what happens

I think I ham up my wrinkled brow thing a bit, tbh, though the fine lines are DEFINITELY appearing. Am 32, so need to start looking after them more . Will make sure I drink lots of water, always use SPF make-up etc. Chanel girl said I had a "lovely, clear forehead". HA HA nearly fell off the stool. (am not that naive to believe her fully. She does a paid job well)

OP posts:
noddyholder · 27/01/2010 13:50

Take them off in teh shower or you can lose an eyebrow!

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/01/2010 13:54

Bernard I am the same re forehead - I am as blind as a bat so screw my eyes up and permaneently frown. So have crappy little lines between my brows.

Am so going to get botox (probably won't really).

Keep a look out for eyebrow kit, I don't know if Loreal still do the one I have got (it has 2 brown eyeshadows and a eyebrow powder and has a pic of Penelope Cruz on it) but like I say Chanel does a smart looking kit as well. Is well worth treating yourself again. Just don't bother with a eyebrow pencil unless you like the marlene Dietrich look.

notnowbernard · 27/01/2010 13:58

I am shocked at myself for considering Botox at some point down the line

Never thought I would (just a ^little bit, between the eyebrows...)

Will look out for eyebrow kit, thanks
