What to use instead of nail polish remover?

Tried out a new nail polish last night and after seeing it in daylight, have decided the colour is too garish. Didn't realise that I have run out of nail polish remover, and can't get to shops as I will be going into work. Is there anything else that will do the job? Thanks!

Anglegrinder.

Seriously - the only other similar solvent you probably have to hand is brake fluid.

(Don't use brake fluid.)

oh no... just tried scraping it off and now it looks even worse... what to do??

Stop digging.

you could try putting clear varnish over it and wiping it off before it dries.

surgical spirit might work but I wouldn't have thought it would be very good for you skin either.

I have heard that perfume can work, I would guess it's the alcohol content.

You need acetone really, but there's not much of that around.

Cover with clear varnish and wipe off while wet. That won't get it all off but might get enough off that you can paint over it with a less garish colour.

Methylated spirit would probably do it. Not great for skin tho and you will pong.

Thanks for tips - will bear them in mind next time I get caught out! Had a few comments from colleagues about it - they said the colour was "different"..

Surgical spirit works fine and so does white spirit diluted. Not great for your nails but not disastrous.

I have used nail varnish in the past. Paint fresh varnish on and wipe off when wet, it takes the old varnish off with it.

Clear varnish works better than colour to take off a varnish, but clear will take off coloured varnish (albeit not as well as remover will).
