Do men prefer us to wear dresses and frocks?

Hope it doesn't sound too weird, but have been worrying/wondering about this for a little while since I realised I just cannot wear a dress.

I used to wear them all the time and skirts etc etc but now if I wear anything skirtish, I feel kind of silly and child like.

It's odd, I know. Am so much more comfortable psychologically in jeans.

I never thought this would happen to me and don't know why it has, I am mid thirties, not enormous, just ordinary shape.

But now when I see women in dresses I think 'is this normal? why can't I do it?
and start to wonder if it is the reason nobody asks me out!

I'm just unsure of the whole decorative aspect and whether it is considered more appeasing to blokes if we do try and look, well, feminine in the typical way.

rambling a bit, sorry!

Or do they actually like us in jeans more?

Oh Gosh. It probably doesn't make any difference does it?

whichever shows ones arse off the best, IME. Or dress wise, a smidge of cleavage

tulpe · 25/01/2010 17:04

ITA with Cyb

So if you are wearing jeans, they need to fit nicely over your bottom and not wear tops which entirely cover said bottom.

Also with dresses/skirts, be careful to do either legs or cleavage - not both. Tis very mutton post-30 in a hugely Liz MacDonald kind of way

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 17:10

Ah I feel I have been initiated into the truth

thankyou

Oh dear, do not think arse particularly great in either...will need to do some mirror observations.

The bigger the better, don;t forget....

tulpe · 25/01/2010 17:25

Absolutely. Men want an arse they can actually see and get hold of. Think Scarlett Johansson rather than Victoria Beckham.

The curvier the better

Bodenbabe · 25/01/2010 17:41

Have you just been wearing one type of skirt/dress? If so, maybe if you looked at lots of different styles...? There must be ONE sort that you'd feel happy in?!

Walnut8 · 25/01/2010 18:16

I'm much happier in skirts/dresses/tunics than jeans and DH prefers. He says it looks classier. Go figure.

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 18:27

Hmm have got and worn plenty of styles, but feel kind of too vulnerable, too girly...does that make sense?

Having nobody to wear stuff for makes a difference though, I can dress up if I know it's appreciated but when you are doing it for no one, it becomes weirdly difficult...

it didn't used to bother me at all.

I suppose I don't like the feeling of being 'womanly' if only random blokes in the street can see me like that - it feels as though I am looking nice for them, which I don't want to do...

whereas if I were part of a couple I would be more comfortable being the 'feminine' one because he was there being the bloke...iyswim.

I sometimes feel like I am trying to be both

Shit, I'm turning into Edie McRedie aren't I

Ohhh no.

OP posts:
Cyb · 25/01/2010 18:38

Flight you've got to display the goods if you want an offer...

IYSWIM

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 18:43

Hmm good point.

Well I have got a jumper dress thing I wear, with tights, perhaps that is slightly revealing...legwise I mean.

I will try harder to expose various, erm, things...

OP posts:
Cyb · 25/01/2010 18:45

lol...it is'nt really the weather for revealing 'things' atm. But showing legs off in tights is a good start....

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 18:51

This is it...I kind of worry that by showing parts of my anatomy, it might attract men to me for the wrong reasons iyswim...

I used to ponce around in leather trousers when I rode a bike, and there were offers all the time, in the street, you know...well strange!

But I bet most of them would have wanted a shag and nothing more...in a way perhaps this is my way of filtering out the wheat from the chaff, ie getting to know the ones who like me for me rather than for my, well, arse!

I don't know though. Perhaps there's room for both elements.

I always wear dresses and skirts and high heels too. I do have one pair of flats but only wear them very occasionally. I have wellies if i need flat boots but otherwise I wear heels only and nice stockings/hold ups and only tights when ass actually falls off in freezing weather. I have one pair of jeans which i have worn a few times with boots but mostly are confined to french farm house.

I think I have a couple of pairs of trousers lurking somewhere but hate them and don't feel as nice in them...

I always do cleavage but never do leg - that would be vulgar...

My DH likes it like that but I was like that when we met so it isn't about him per se. my Ex hated it completely and was almost wanting me to wear jogging bottoms et al.... terrible

tartyhighheels · 25/01/2010 18:55

although yesterday i spent the day in jimjams because morning sickness was in shock and awe mode..... not very glam at all

Cyb · 25/01/2010 19:07

Theres a world of difference between dressing in a feminine way and dressing like Jodie Mash though, isn't there? Try a little flesh at a time

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 19:14

I wonder if a bloke thinks 'phwoar' initially then follows it up as the prerequisite has been fulfilled, rather than thinking 'ooh this is a nice kind woman, hmm maybe she could be sexy if she dressed up a bit..'?

OP posts:
Cyb · 25/01/2010 19:16

You are over thinking this

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 19:17

probably...

OP posts:
Cyb · 25/01/2010 20:55

I think men are attracted by what they see first of all...non? Whereas luckily for them its brains that we like

BigTillyMint · 25/01/2010 22:20

Get some of these and a very short skirt - they seem to be doing it for my DH

Bodenbabe · 25/01/2010 22:35

You dont' have to show flesh to wear dresses anyway - I never do! Something like this with opaque tights and knee-high boots is fab, and not at all girly or 'here I am, boys'!
