and she says I can't wear my black Boden dress last year's version of this to the christening because it is BLACK. And I am godmother. And it is BAD LUCK.
And now I have nothing to wear because I am too fat for all my nice size 12/14 dresses because I am pushing a 16.
Please help. Am 5'6", hourglass shape, pale skin and reddish-brown hair (this week). The christening is next month in a v cold church. And I am size 16 (or 14 in Monsoon).

Why not that one you linked from Boden, it looks lovely.

It is nice in green, isn't it? Maybe I should buy it in the green? I've only worn the black one once, and nobody but my mum has seen it, so I thought it would be fine. Can you really not wear black to christenings or is it just my mum?

Though I really like that JL one you linked to.
Thing is I am losing weight, quite successfully, and hope to be back to my normal size 12-14 in a few months, so don't want to spend £££ on a size 16 dress.

long sleeves, green so should suit red hair, should suit hour glass, I have a purple one like that that I like a lot, in fact I'm quite tempted myself

aarghhelp · 25/01/2010 14:49

here sorry

this in kingfisher?

If you were to accessorise with colour (shoes, tights, wrap/jewellery) then it should look fine.

TheFirstLady · 25/01/2010 21:54

Phew, so I CAN wear the dress. I've got some lovely green suede heels I could wear with it. What colour tights with those - black? Have got a fab green necklace too. I don't know what sort of wrap/cardi though - would appreciate some suggestions - accessorising isn't my thing.

  • nude or black patterned tights with the green shoes

(or smart black boots and funky black patterned tights which means just accessorising with necklace/wrap)

  • your green necklace

and depends on the shade of green but maybe a pashmina/wrap/scarf that has greeny hues. Could only find plain:
fat face
stole
coast

TheFirstLady · 25/01/2010 23:13

Oh, I forgot patterned tights were back. How lovely, an Eighties trend I CAN revisit. Excellent plan, you are good at this Heated, thank you.
Love the Coast scarf.
I think I'm sorted now, with a nice bright scarfy thing like that even my mum can't object to the dress and I'd much rather wear a dress I like and that I know suits me than buy one in a rush.

I've heard the bit about black being bad luck for a christening too. If I remember correctly, accessorising it with colour wasn't an acceptable solution, not if you took the original premise seriously anyway. It stems from the tradition that black as a main colour should only be worn at funerals, so I'd check with the mum of the baby if I were you.

It isn't that black is banned, just that the main colour shouldn't be black iyswim? So a black top with a bright skirt (say red or blue) - acceptable; black top with black skirt - not acceptable.
