....although I know you lot won't

here

Anyway, my question is this. Will the style suit my size 12/14 curvy self? Or will I look like

this?

I like it. Might look good with wedges?

Are your arms good? Because I think hers are slim, the tattoos clash badly with the print!!

arsesandoldlace · 25/01/2010 12:49

If you're an hourglass shape it will look awesome.

PoppityPing · 25/01/2010 12:53

I like that

I think it depends how you curve. The frill will accentuate big bazoomas, it will be unforgiving on upper arms and shoulders, and you need decent knees (always my fear, fat knees).

You could wear it nipped in with a belt which would add to shapeliness.

BunnyLebowski · 25/01/2010 12:59

Hmmmm. Arms are good. I think I'm pretty much an hourglass (37-28-38?).

The belt is a good idea Poppity - thank you!

I was going to wear it this weekend so bare corned beef legs are a definite no.

I was planning wearing with tights and boots and with a cardie. 1940's waves and pin-up girl eyeliner and red lips...sound ok?

Is 'I'm loving this dress' grammatically correct?
Shouldn't it be 'I love this dress'?

Tortington · 25/01/2010 13:09

you were right.

i don't like it

it is in fact hiddeous

MollyRoger · 25/01/2010 13:13

Are you young? It is described as a girl's dress...If you are under 30, you will be fine. 1940s do up etc sounds good.

noddyholder · 25/01/2010 13:14

Oh no too little girly and a bit cheapy looking.I like 50s florals but that isn't right somehow BUT I am 44 so way too old for it

mrsruffallo · 25/01/2010 13:15

And the dress is skanky

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 13:18

No no NO please don't

it is exactly like something I had aged 7 from M&S in fact was it? Or did my mum make it from a pattern in womans weekly?

it's the frilly bit and straps style that really looks dated, I think plus is v v ££ for a little bit of cloth.

I am sure you could find something much more stylish somewhere else

BunnyLebowski · 25/01/2010 13:23

Yep I think it's too romper-ish.

I was trying to get away from my usual look with something new. I think I'll just stick to what I know suits me .

Thanks for the constructive comments those of you that gave them.

I don't like it sorry .. I think you can do cute and grown up but this is just 100% girly .. I love the sound of your hair and makeup though

Themasterandmargaritas · 25/01/2010 14:11

Hair and makeup sound groovy, can't you find something in the 40's style that is also quite funky?

Sadly, even in 27 degree heat of today you wouldn't catch me wearing that.

PoppityPing · 25/01/2010 14:13

Bunny, if you want the forties look but less girly, try

Vivien

collectif

pin up parade

pin up emporium

Gret for curvy girls

PoppityPing · 25/01/2010 14:14

oops, great

Themasterandmargaritas · 25/01/2010 14:17

What about something like this?

Themasterandmargaritas · 25/01/2010 14:23

Poppity your sites are much better than mine.

I'm a little at a loss to understand the link between being heavily tattooed and dressing up in 1940/50 style clothing.......

SparrowFflamau · 25/01/2010 14:26

I think it would suit you more than her

BunnyLebowski · 25/01/2010 14:31

Thanks poppity and Themaster

Both great links. Will peruse with a cuppa. Love the collectif site already!

I think the tattoo/retro look is called rockabilly? I don't have any tattoos, I am just an old-fashioned kinda gal!

Thanks for all your help ladies

PoppityPing · 25/01/2010 15:10

I like yours too master (ooer missus)

I know with the tattoos, how did that come about? Tough girls wanting to do pretty?

I love that 40s look, I can never pull off the lipstick though, and you do kind of need the lipstick don't you think?

SimpleAsABC · 25/01/2010 15:12

I don't like it.. Sorry!

Megglevache · 25/01/2010 15:14

I love it!

Megglevache · 25/01/2010 15:15

Its the kind of thing I could see Paloma Faith wearing, very kitsch.

misshardbroom · 25/01/2010 18:26

I think with tights, boots, cardie and the sort of make up you describe, it could look great. I'm assuming that your normal style is along these lines.... if I wore it, everyone would die laughing, but if you're someone who typically mixes in more kitsch & vintage stuff, it will be fab.

Flightattendant · 25/01/2010 18:31

I think you can redeem any number of terrible dresses with a pair of opaques, cardi and jewellery

it doesn't mean you should buy them though.
