I realise i'm using my Protect and Perfect as a moisturiser - (i'm not sure it's designed for this?) and therefore am getting through it by the bucket load. I can't afford to go on buying it at the rate of a bottle every fortnight (!) and need a nice moisturiser. Something that doesn't feel greasy but feels like it is really doing the job and lasts a while. Cheaper the better. What do you use?

Dirpobase! eversince DS's dermatologist recommended it for washing and moisturising. I love it.

about £8 for a huge pump action tub from the chemist. Only thing is it's got a slightly medicated smell.
Anyhway, it's brilliant for handcream, kid cream, body lotion, if you can't bring yourself to put it on your face.

However, my mum was so shocked by this behaviour (dirpobase on the face), she's got me some lovely moisturiser from Martha Hill.com, which really is special, it's like velvet for the face and it goes further than the protect and perfect which I've kept for special occassions

kissmummy · 24/01/2010 21:36

at the Diprobase idea! i'm sure we have POTS of the stuff somewhere as my DS had eczema when he was younger, so that option would cost me nothing!

Oh, be careful. I've had allergic reactions to both diprobase and aqueous cream... Each time, I used them on my face and the most recent time, I think I probably scared small children, my face was scarlet .

Neals Yard do lovely moisturisers. The frankincense one is particularly good for this time of year. Also, Liz Earle sell some nice moisturisers. John Lewis sell her stuff or the on line shop is brilliant.

Liz earle is lovely and how about the boots no7 protect and perfect day moisturiser? the night one is nice too, not too heavy.

wildfig · 27/01/2010 10:21

I use Dr Nick Lowe The Secret is Out cream or the Dr Nick Lowe daily moisturiser. Both lovely, with SPF, and often included in £5 off discounts at Boots. Time Delay daily moisturiser beat lots of more expensive brands in the Beauty Bible tests, and is about £8?

Love Liz Earle too - smells gorgeous, really feels like it's 'feeding' your skin, but you'd need a separate sunscreen.

Allow me to roll out my standard answer to this frequently asked S&B question:

Neutrogena Active Day Cream SPF15 (with soy) about £7-£8 from Superdrug.

Have used many moisturisers over the years. Sadly my budget does not often stretch to Roc (which is the very best imo) so I nearly alwyas use this.

People always guess my age at 10 years younger than I actually am.

Aromatherapy Associates Renew Facial oil. It does appear expensive but even a small bottle lasts for a long time (a couple of months) as you only use a tiny amount. Is perfect under foundation and doesn't leave any oily residue on the skin.

madmissy · 27/01/2010 11:03

i use protect and perfect serum and then the moisturiser on top its on 3 for 2 at the moment

faustina · 27/01/2010 12:08

at night I am using bio-oil. Too greasy to use for the day, but I have used everything - from hideously expensive to boots protect and perfect, and the bio-oil is the only thing that I could actually say did something - it is brilliant stuff

LastTrainToGeneva · 27/01/2010 12:12

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. Only £7 but works wonders. And you only need the tiniest amount as it spreads so smoothly, so it also lasts for ages. One tube generally lasts me about 6-8 weeks, with twice daily application

vesela · 27/01/2010 12:51

If it's as good as their handcream, I can believe it does work wonders. Had never occurred to me to try it (prob. because I associate them with handcream first and foremost) but I'll give it a go.

GeorginaWorsley · 27/01/2010 12:56

I bought some good old fashioned Nivea last week and I think it is great.
I use it as a cleanser with a muslin cloth as well
My skin suddenly become drier after years of greasiness, and I looked really old at the weekend.
Started Nivea on saturday, already I look re plumped and glowing(preen)

TheChicOfIt · 27/01/2010 12:58

Nivea Visage do a nice day moisturiser - about a fiver I think from Boots.

If you wanted to splash out try Dermalogica Active Moist or Skin Smoothing cream.

chocolatespiders · 27/01/2010 16:02

boots protect and perfect day cream - £19.00
I love it and cant wait till pay day tomorrow when i can buy some i have been without it since christmas... it is FAB

shuz · 27/01/2010 16:32

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing cream is fantastic and although it cost approx £38 it will last you at least 3 months and it works wonders!

pointsmakeprizes · 27/01/2010 16:59

If you want a cheap one then the Simple one is great - i think it's called regenerist. Also recommend the neutrogena range for value - they do a lovely illuminating one that makes your face glow.

Dermalogica skin smoothing is fab as well and i like the neal's yard frankincense one which i am using at the moment though i do find that it can be a bit drying on my skin at times which is strange as its the nourishing one for dry skin and I don't even have dry skin!

If you want a good facial oil then use a mix of extra virgin oil and sweet almond oil. Add drops of essential oils like lavender or rose or neroli to it if you like. I use that every night and my skin is softer and brighter then ever and its extremely cheap.

Pannacotta · 28/01/2010 22:22

Does anyome know a cheap on line stockist of Dermalogica?
