Help! bad highlights

Had my hair highlighted today and I really don't like it. It is too light and too 'stripey' IYSWIM.

Would it be safe for me to put a semi permanent colour on it tomorrow to try and tone it down a bit?

Can't go back to hairdresser as she is my future SIL and this is the first time she has done my hair. She is very nice and I get on with her, so don't like to say I don't like it.

Any suggestions welcome!

Either brave it and go back to SIL or go to another salon. Please don't put any other colour on it yourself

Ok, thanks

Was hoping to be able to do it myself, but I guess green hair would be worse than it is already...

I had this. i used a semi permenant colour in the lightest shade of blonde and it evened things out a bit more. it looked much better.
think it was the l'oreal casting i used. i was advised to do this by a hairdresser friend.

MaineGirl

What was your natural colour in your case

My natural colour is brown and the highlights are blonde, would this still work?

give it a few days before you do anything!

OK but actually am slightly embarrassed to go to work on Monday now, looks that bad...

thought I was quite clear as to what colour I wanted

At my salon in Brussels they used to put a temporary rinse - I think it was called - Diacolour (l'Oreal?) - on after the highlights to avoid the initial striped colour. Think you can get it here and it's not permanent so shouldn't make you Anne of Green Gables green. I've also used a 'dark blonde' semi-permanent shade once when an over enthusiastic hairdresser put in far too many very light highlights.

Jewelsandgems · 23/01/2010 21:28

I had a stripy situation last time but it all toned down and faded within a few weeks (yes weeks - not days) and now the lightest shade I thought was too stripy just kind of shimmers through, as opposed to bright stripe effect!

I wouldn't put anything over it, unless recommended by proffessional. You could end up either end up with pink, orange, green or that it worked perfectly.

Hope it works out ok though

I always, without fail, hate my highlights just after I've had them done. A couple of weeks on, they've settled down and usually look ok. I'd give it at least a fortnight before you do anything...

Ha! Exactly the same thing has just happened to me. Extensive googling suggests that using Head and Shoulders fades hair colour more quickly than other shampoos...

I just brazened it out at work and made sure people understood it wasn't actually what I'd been hoping for! But I don't think I'll be going back to that salon. Definitely feel very stripey.

Gah. Me too. The whole debacle and then correcting it - cost me 200 quid.
Nightmare.
