Not wispy types, I wanna wear pencil skirts and heels, but I have a 13 week old and a whirlwind nearly 4 yr old. People would look at me like I was nuts wouldn't they?

I wear tunics and leggings or cord/denim mini skirt with tights or leggings and uggs quite a lot.

aarghhelp · 24/01/2010 14:48

I am using mumsnet a bit to gauge what mums with kids my son's age might usually be wearing.

If not working, I would prob wear knee length denim skirt with T-shirts/layers and casual brown boots and coloured tights.

I wouldn't suit a mini.

pagwatch · 24/01/2010 14:57

have this which I wear with black heeled boots and opaques and this which I wear with a cardigan and boots

I get long sleeved tees or lightweight jumpers and layer underneath

pagwatch · 24/01/2010 15:00

oops
hope this works

NorkilyChallenged · 24/01/2010 15:21

Ooooh Pag, I love the colour of that baby cord dress and the textured dress is gorgeous!

It would get instantly covered in porridge and yoghurt in my life though. But it's lovely.

I tried a cord mini in Kew a few months ago and it looked nice but then when I bent over I thought it was a bit toooooo revealing for soft play or the park

Dry clean only tends to be a deal breaker for me, especially for child care.

Very impressed by Nicole Farhi wardrobe, pagwatch!

pagwatch · 24/01/2010 16:36

I like their sales.

I use the dry clean kit from Lakeland which is pretty good value if I clean in batches. Plus it saves ironing

I wore that type of thing for work religiously but now that I'm on maternity leave, I live in leggings in the house/for literally running to the shop, but wear tight and smart skirts or dresses with my cardigan UGGs/low-heeled ankle boots when I'm venturing out properly. I don't think it's very practical wearing high heels when you're dashing about with babies and/or children but hey, many women choose to and seem to manage just fine. It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. Wear what you feel comfortable and confident wearing in any given situation.

I wear ditsy print dresses over a long sleeved T and leggings/tights most days. The dresses are great for taking the food spills and still looking the same and also some of mine have a full skirt and tight bodice (quite sexy, but the skirt part can also double as a emergancy cloth/towel when out and about without any noticable change to dress)

I do wear heels, I do wear boots too. In summer it is casual sandals/flats.

Pencil skirts for me wouldn't work for me with 2 toddlers, but if I had a tiny baby then I see no reason why not. And if it makes you feel good then I think it's certainly worth wearing!

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 25/01/2010 09:11

jewels and gems, where do you get ssaid ditsy print dresses? I'm always on the look out for them and never see them...

meltedmarsbars · 25/01/2010 10:30

Uttam here have lovely dresses. Sometimes I find them in TKmax. The silk ones are handwash but only take a moment.

pagwatch · 25/01/2010 10:37

ooh - good tip. Prints are great for coping with spills and marks.

If you are young enough there are loads of pretty prints in stores like Topshop, River Island and New Look.
teenagers can get away with them as they are but they look fine if you are older with opaques, long tees and or boyfriend cardies/blazers

( bit too young for me now [wistful])

meltedmarsbars · 25/01/2010 10:43

We're all impressed with the Nicole Farhi, Pagwatch!

pagwatch · 25/01/2010 10:52

thanks - but I miss back when I could just go into Miss Selfridge and pick up pretty stuff and not have to worry about wrinkly arms or baggy knees....
I have to buy stuff that is tailored and well cut and covers lots of extremities now
[sigh]

ZZZenAgain · 25/01/2010 10:54

I wear skirts/dresses sometimes but not pencil skirts unless they're stretchy and not with high heels usually.

I can't stand wearing tights/stockings so I only wear skirts when the weather permits really - or around the house. And they have to feel comfortable.

plumblossom · 25/01/2010 11:07

Hi, I'm a SAHM and wear dresses almost every day. I'm quite short and curvy so find that dresses suit me best rather than tops and trousers. It's also much easier to put on a dress rather than having to put together a trouser, top, cardigan option. I wear pumps rather than heels as this tends to make the dress look a little less glammed up.
I pick things up from everywhere Boden, Kew, Asos, Oasis but am just about to order this from New Look, cheap and cheerful for Springwww.newlook.co.uk/women/dresses/day_dresses/1838256/183825641/productdetails.aspx?vid=1856828&langua ge=en-GB. I'll wear it with tights and a little cardi.
If you really want to look nice invest in a selection of nice coats/jackets they always finish off an outfit.

Jewelsandgems · 25/01/2010 16:34

bonjour I but my ditsy prints mostly from topshop, and matalan had loads last summer which I am still wearing layered for A/W.

Really like that bow dress plumb and the ones I have from matalan are exactly that style but with ditsy flowers and stars.

I have spent alot of time in flats so am currently wearing more heels (but come the summer, I will be back to flats and summer sandals)

Jewelsandgems · 25/01/2010 16:41

I have this from topshop
this one which I wear as a dress over leggings (not tights!) and sometimes with a belt, sometimes not. And usually wear with tux jacket or leather jacket.

I tried this on the other day and it is nice
here and I am sure I may end up buying it!

And I really like this

arabicabean · 25/01/2010 17:34

Most definitely - my sense of style has not altered by having had a baby!
Now that the baby is a two year old, I just choose skirts and dresses that I can run and be very mobile in. Currently wearing a MaxMara dress and Crumpet cashmere jacket (I have a lot of rather nice clothes from my work days).
I don't wear heels because of the need to run about, so bare legs at home and cashmere leggings and knee high boots when out.
The only times I have worn jeans, was to toddler groups where I have had to sit on a less than clean floor.
