So, the L'Oreal Primer...I bought it yesterday....

took the DTs and drove into Belfast as I couldn't get it in any of the Boots closer to me.

I already use the tube of Estee Lauder primer which is gorgeous so my thinking was that I would save it for nights out and weekends and use the L'Oreal one during the week.

First thing is that the L'Oreal tub is TINY! I had looked at it online and thought it was the size of a jar of moisturiser so was surprised that it's more like the size of a tub of lip salve.
Due to the size, it's tricky to get the right amount of cream out. Have to say I much prefer having a cream in a tube so you aren't sticking your mucky fingers in it every day.
Verdict on the packaging - EL wins

On price..the L'Oreal one to be cheaper.
But on closer inspection, it's 15ml for £12.99. My Estee Lauder one is 30ml and it's only £19.50. Was v suprised!
Verdict on the price - EL wins

Now for the skin test. I used it under my makeup today and I agree, the L'Oreal is a nice product but it has a thicker consistency than EL so I ended up using more and have to say that the EL is much nicer for putting your makeup on over. Also, 3 hours in, my face feels a little tight and dry...tho that could be more to do with the bottle of wine last night!
Overall Verdict - EL all the way!

Would be interesting if anyone else has compared L'Oreal and any of the other primers mentioned on the last thread?

Oh I was thinking of buying the L'O one, but if it's tiny I might cange my mind [tightwad]. I forgot to lok for it today, I might need to go into Belfast as well.

I am in London and looked in at least 5 Boots for the stuff and couldn't find I. I bought (& used) a collagen filler thing by mistake that is pointless. I don't like L'O Nestle links anyway and bought the Clarins one again instead.

Have the loreal one after readinf MN'S recommendations and am afraid it does nothing for me.
Maybe am using wrong ,but canot see any difference,or I get flakiness.
Had a sample Estee Lauder one ages ago and it was k.
Have used Smashbox, that was probably the best.

What does a primer do anyway? Is it like a base coat for foundation?

MillyR · 23/01/2010 22:06

I have YSL primer and was £30 for 40 ml. It is so obvious to check how many ml of product you are getting for the money, but it hadn't occurred to me before this thread.

dingdong3 · 23/01/2010 23:06

I know MillyR...I was so keen to pick up the L'Oreal one at what appeared to be a good price but then had a major DUH moment when I realised it was just 15ml.
My friend uses the YSL one and swears by it...had tried some on the back of my hand one day and was really impressed.

Poshsinglemum, a primer helps to make your foundation last longer and not 'slide' off your face IYKWIM! Also can help bare skin look smoother and hide pores. But, yet another thing to add to the morning routine!

I have just swapped to the new YSL primer (pore control one) and may end up swapping back to the old YSL one (matt touch) because I am not convinced it is sorting out my pores. It may be because I am looking for a miracle rather than a primer though.
