Can you wear a pencil skirt when you have a sticky out tummy?

I wore a skirt today for the first time in ages and forgot how nice they were. I have one knee length skirt so need to get more. If not to a pencil skirt, ideas would be good. TIA.

I had an email from Asda and they are doing a pencil skirt with a buikt in tummy control panel. Clever! Might be worth a look.

As long as tummy smaller than boobs it'll be fine.

You can draw attention away from tummy with cardigan/long necklace/scarf etc.

I do think most people look better in fitted clothes - the fuller/floaty stuff only looks great on real skinnies. The one and only time I wore a smock type top someone asked if I was pregnant and I most certainly was not.

But then I also like a tarty edge to my clothes - subtle of course

Tis very mad men and what's her face is no skinny minny and looks fab in her pencil skirts.

I asked Dh and he had no idea what number or letter shape I was.

Boobs are bigger than tummy. Just.

Dh has requested Asda make your own pizza for dinner so I will look at the skirts, thank you.

Pencil skirts fab on hourglass / curvy shape so as long as your boobs stick out further then you'll look fab Fab. And a sticky out tum can always be smoothed in with control pants - altho not so sexy when you take off your clothes

Am liking mp's massive arse essential criteria

No joy in Asda so will order off their website. Thanks again.

Will second Joan Holloway from Mad Men! Tailored is always better than tent.

Have just bought this- dilemma solved

mowcop · 22/01/2010 19:27

trying to think of somewhere I could wear a skirt to now. Sadly I would need more arse control than tummy!

tethersend · 22/01/2010 19:30

Wear it backwards

mowcop · 22/01/2010 20:10

erm, yes thanks, that's very helpful!

tethersend · 22/01/2010 20:23

There should have been a there, sorry- would have changed the tone of the post!

Rollmops · 22/01/2010 21:06

No. Terribly sorry, but you should not.

I think as a general rule of thumb, apples should wear pencil skirts, but pear shapes are better off with A-line.

The tummmy/saddlebag ratio is also crucial.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 23/01/2010 11:03

This gets rave reviews.

I don't know if I am an apple or a pear.

Look good with big bum but not big belly.I don't suit them at all unless a great fit and I am at my slimmest.I love them though and am when I see someone looking great in one

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 23/01/2010 11:52

Apple and Pear shapes

I think the link gives a general idea, but if you google 'apple pear shapes' lots should come up.

I'm a pear, and pencil/straight skirts always pull into a horizontal crease across the front of my (rather ample) hips and thighs, which is not a good look.

On apples, on the other hand, the skirt 'drops' from higher up on the waist, giving a more elegant line I think. Also apples tend to have better legs, so look good in short neat skirts.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 23/01/2010 12:02

The link didn't work, Cider but will try another site, thanks.

I don't have good legs below the knee either.

tethersend I did assume you were joking, no need to apologise. I have rhino skin on the afore mentioned arse!

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 08/02/2010 12:29

I have bought the Asda skirt and it is great but now what shirt do I wear? I am a size 18 but very hourglass so want something to wear out to dinner. Any ideas??
