Blackheads. Any tips to get rid of them?

Over the last couple of months, I've acquired several APPALLING blackheads on my cheekbones. (Never had them before, which is why I'm appalled.) I've tried tea-tree oil, and also a preparation from Boots, but no luck in shifting them. If anyone else has other suggestions, I'd be very grateful.

If you can afford it I'd go for a deep cleansing facial.

Then try mineral make up - it doesn't clog pores.

I'll second a facial, one where they do "extractions" ... try a clay mud mask in the meantime

eeewwwww at 'extractions'

I find mineral make up really good (it's faintly possible I may quite often once or twice a year go to sleep in it and my skin doesn't break out in the same way as with normal make up afterwards), facial also brilliant.

You can get pretty good results with a home facial too (hot bath/steamer, clay mask, nice oil cleansing method type cleanse, decent moisturiser).

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to post suggestions.

Actually, I don't wear make-up apart from eye liner/mascara, so I don't even know what mineral make-up is.

Guess I'll try a clay mask, and maybe go for a proper professional facial when I get paid at the end of the month!

My Clogged pore and blackhead have improved since starting the Cleansing Oil Method 3 weeks ago

MrsGazebo · 21/01/2010 08:23

I have combination skin (oily/ dry)
I'm a big fan of Body Shop Seaweed range. They do a fantastic deep cleansing exfoiliator and facial wash
I had enlarged pores on my T-zone and using these have really cleared my skin up.
They also do a great pore minimiser.
Their Mineral make up is also fabulous, it's 100% minerals (no talc/fillers) and half the price of others on the market eg. Bare Essentials.

Hope this helps.

Biore strips - you moisten them and stick them on then rip them off when they are dry and they pull the blackheads out. It's yeukky magic, scarily compelling, but very effective. They make shapes for noses but you can use them anywhere.

miche8 · 21/01/2010 10:23

Used to be a fan of those biore strips even better you use them on your other half, they have loads of blackheads....but the last pack i bought just before xmas doesn't seem to work, they just don't stick and dry out so don't remove anything.

Have you tried cleansing with a muslin cloth? i use the liz earle cleanser too....the oil method should also work.

Think i get less since i have been using the bare id mineral makeup too.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 21/01/2010 15:29

Oh I remember using those strips as a teen - they rip it out but leave you with wide open pores - not pretty.

[reads op carefully]
if you only have 'several' (ie not 6 million like me) then I'd be tempted to wash and steam face, cut nails and extract manually. Then slap on any cheapy clay-based mask to close pores.

lulu12345 · 21/01/2010 21:34

I agree with Mrs Badger - steam, extract, then a clay mask.

They will be back within a few weeks though unless you can get them under control with your daily skincare routine - exfoliation is key!

I would really recommend Olay's Regenerist Self-Heating Skin Polisher - I use it in the shower every morning and had great results!

FerretingAround · 23/01/2010 00:54

Mrs Badger - yes, they are not (yet) legion.
So earlier today I followed your advice and this seems to be working.

Will also do the follow-up, as advised!

Many thanks to all.
