Ok, it's ages away yet but I'm very excited!
I'm going for a girlie weekend away but we are probably only taking hand luggage, I need to think of a capsule wardrobe and I also need to overcome the problem of the liquids on the flight!

How am I going to fit:-
shampoo / conditioner / hair spray / etc
suncream / facecream / eyecream
perfume
mascara / lip stick
deodrant / toothpaste / facewash / shower gel

All in to one tiny TINY plastic bag!!!!
HELP!

I did 5 days away for work with hand lugagge only, was easy

decant enough for a weekend into tiny bottles (from boots, Tesco etc) or even, for eyecream etc, an empty lipstick palette.

Or take sachets from magazines

or buy travel sizes

or buy them airside

Regarding liquids, are they good girlie friends? Can one take conditioner, one shampoo, one toothpaste etc.? Look in Boots/ Tesco etc, you can get travel sizes in loads of brands now. Keep your make-up bag with solid items (lipsticks, eyeshadows, pencils) in a separate bag.

What are you hoping the weather will be like? My packing list would be something like this;

Friday (travelling) - white or very dark jeans, striped t-shirt, cotton or linen jacket (3/4 sleeved), flat sandals. (If you are going out when you get there you can just put some heels on and dress up your make-up & jewellry)

Saturday
day- denim shorts or capris with a bright tunic top.
night - little dress in crinkle fabric that you can screw up and wear with the heels and some nice beads.

Sunday
day - either yesterday's shorts or your jeans with a t shirt or tunic top.

The jacket you travelled in can go over anything. Pick a colour to begin with e.g - a purple jacket then make everything match that. Take a big straw bag and a hat.

ld, thats a great tip about the jacket - will save on packing a cardi incase it's not as hot as I hope. We are travelling out Thursday and back Monday.

They are good girlie friends but I think we are all going to have the same problem.

What do you mean by "Keep your make-up bag with solid items (lipsticks, eyeshadows, pencils) in a separate bag."?

When I read the restrictions today it said you are only allowed one piece of hand luggage - I did wonder about being able to take a handbag seperatly?!?!? Can I pop make-up in a handbag and get away with it not going in the tiny plastic bag?

I'm not using to packing economically - I have 2 kids and usually take everything including the kitchen sink in hold baggage - my hand luggage normally consists of sweets / nintendo ds / camera / wallet etc etc etc

when you go through security you take out your zip-lock plastic 'liquids bag' out of your case/bag and put it through the scanner seperately. Brushes / combs / pencils / powder / eyeshadow can stay in your makeup bag in the bag/case

and yes usually you will get away with a holdall/wheely case of the correct proportions plus a reasonably-sized handbag

DecorHate · 19/01/2010 16:41

Imo you will need to ensure you can squeeze your handbag in to your carry-on luggage for going through security.

Agree with DecorHate. Have done a fair amount of air travel in the last year and every time, without fail, security have been hassling people to either put handbags in their main bag or dump it. They are very strict on 1 bag only.

I put all my stuff in a zip-lock freezer bag. I would say if you really need to take large amounts of stuff, buy it airside and then dump it before you return.

I carry lipstick/gloss/lipbalm/mascara in the clear plastic bag too. You can take up to a litre of liquid with you but maximum size per bottle is 100ml, iirc.

Which airline are you flying with? Some are stricter than others. Continental Airlines let me fly with very sharp tweezermans in my hand luggage - despite it being post-9/11. Whereas Easyjet made me throw out my lip balm.

Buy airside and share stuff like shampoo if you can. Go round concessions at department stores and get mini freebies. I have a whole travel makeup kit fom various brands offering mini things. Alternatively some brands used to do scaled down stuff - I had a tiny Rimmel lipstick which was great.

Agree you don't want a big handbag - they'll let you through with a tiny one that holds camera, purse, travel dice etc but not a huge one.

Liquids - look at go tiny. Superdruag also have a fair selection of travel size toiletries.
