I really want some pampering but cant afford to go to a salon/spa .
I wondered if anyone has used their local college salon. If so what did you have done? Was it any good and how much did you pay?

i qualified as an holistic therapist about 18 months ago and before we were let loose on the public (was an open salon) the tutors made sure that we were more than capable. give it a go! the practice was invaluable.

I used a local one about 8 or 9 years ago.
I had a pedicure done and paid £5. It was fantastic and included a foot massage, foot spa and of course the nail cut and polish.

I also had an Indian Head Massage for which I paid £8. It was amazing and I really recommend it.

Years ago I had a perm done at a local college, it was excellent infact the best perm I'd ever had and it lasted longer than any other. The college tutors ensure nothing goes wrong and it was silly prices.

The only thing I would say is allow yourself plenty of time. My perm took from 9.30 until 2! Hair and beauty students need to do several practicals to pass their courses.

Our local college also ran a restaurant for the catering students, went to a valentine special and it was excellent. (and not pricey.

Go for it.

No horror stories so far. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow

When I went, we opted to go closer to June, thats when they finish their training so are practically qualifed and very competent by then.
But like someone already said, they are closely monitored by their tutors so is very unlikely for something to go wrong.

Have used the college salon several times...really good experiences but allow plenty of time.

Going to book in for a sports massage soon.

I've only ever had my hair done by students and have always been pleased, only problem is it takes so long, sometimes hard to find childcare. I could request a 2nd or 3rd year student usually a couple of £s difference in price. And once you get someone good request them each time.

I don't think i'd have waxing done by a student but massages, nails and facials i wouldn't mind.

kinnies · 19/01/2010 17:03

I'm thinkin of a facial, massage and maybe pedicure/nails.
Woke up with a rotten cold thismorning so will give it a couple of days and then book an appiontment.
Whats a sports massage? Do you have to be sporty?

I have a sports massage to sort out a problem with my shoulder/arm. Not at all sporty....this is a problem causes by tension and when I used to sit at a desk all day.
