Which watch to buy?

I recently sold a lot of unwanted gold and wanted to spend the money on a decent (Swiss?) classic watch that could be handed down later one...

Have upto £2,500 to spend... Have looked at the Tag Aquaracer range but all suggestions helpful! Thanks

I'm also looking for a watch in this kind of budget for my 40th b'day, which is fast approaching. You're right, there's loads of choice out there.

I love Cartier and that's a definite contender for me. Have you considered an Omega? I already have one as my every day watch, so it's probably not one I would consider. For your money this is easily within budget.

Have Cartier tank in the stainless steel / gold which is v.nice for everyday. Also have an Ebel ladies classic ..they are good as you can choose different face and have diamond hour markers. imo they are very understated and elegant. Depends whether it is for everyday or not as to wht you choose . I have another "dress" watch but wouldn't be right for daytime.

I have a good friend who works for a Bond St jewellers and who has a bit of a watch fetish. She has said never to buy a Tag - they may look nice, but they are very much style over substance and the mechanisms, etc., aren't nearly as good quality as other watches in the same price bracket.

I've got a Tag and a Cartier Tank Francaise and wear both as day time watches. I've had both for a number of years and have had no problems with either.

However if I had to choose just one of them it would be the Cartier. It just looks so much more expensive for not much more money. And it is a much better day to evening watch.

I have a watch from Tiffany which is definitely classic but not too bling and will make a lovely heirloom. It is similar to this one except mine has an oblong face (can't see exact one on their site) but was nearer the £2K mark.

Second an ebel recommendation, have had mine about 10 years it still looks fantastic and very understated. It's black mother of pearl face so has a subtle sheen to it and small diamonds in the dial. Never loses a second, excellent quality for the price IMO

I have a Reverso from Jaeger Le Coutre. I think you will be able to afford the basic stainless steel model, which is a timeless (haha) classic and is great if you want a pricey watch but don't want to look bling

I've got the Omega mini constellation in stainless tell but they also do it in yellow gold and steel and a slightly larger version of mine, for around £2K.

I was told by the jewellers that they get lotsof Ebels back for repair....they sell them as well! But very few Omegas.

Personall I like a chronograph (for timing things at work) and with your budget would consider the Omega Speedmaster Reduced or the Tag Link chrono

These watches intrigue me.... (without sounding dense)what is on the other side...? I'm a big fiddler (always fiddling with my jewellery, not the musical type ) so could be worth it for that alone!
