what can little boys wear to a wedding?

Here is another not-especially-interesting wedding thread from a shopped-out MissHardbroom.

What can DS1 wear to my brother's wedding that is smart and 'special' but does not have buttons?

(DS1 is 5 and button phobic, which I know sounds funny / precious but actually is for real!)

Any suggestions?

Would he weat a suit jacket if you took the buttons off?
What about a suit type thing with a knitted tank top and white t-shirt underneath?

cockles · 17/01/2010 17:04

sailor suit; try tulip and nettle for nice sailor tops which he could wear with dark trousers

BertieBotts · 17/01/2010 17:05

Yes, knitted tank top with plain long sleeved top underneath, maybe also a polo shirt if you can find a buttonless one so it has a collar?

BertieBotts · 17/01/2010 17:07

This is cute, probably not formal enough but it looks as though you could find something with a collar but no buttons: minimode.co.uk/boys-molly-n-jack-jumper-in-blue

Children are so weird aren't they . Talk about having to be creative - mums really have to find a solution to the most bizarre problems!

KristinaM · 17/01/2010 19:47

a kilt and lace up shirt like this

Cyb · 17/01/2010 19:49

NO to sailor suit

A tank top always looks smart and is comfy, with little chinos and a shirt/long sleeved tee shirt.

Schweet

Think I'm going to have to go for smart trousers, long sleeved white T-shirt like one of the Petit Bateau ones, and a knitted tank top like this.

Hope this will do because I don't want him to be all withdrawn and anxious all day (which is the result if he's ever bribed / coerced / threatened into wearing a shirt).

I think your final idea of chinos, long sleeved tee and knitted tank is lovely. Personally, I cannot abide boys in suits at weddings.

KristinaM · 17/01/2010 20:00

that monsoon slipover is lovely, great colours

i have a 5yo boy too and although he is not button phobic, he is a pain if he's not happy with what he's wearing

mine has just gone from refusing to wear a shirt ( only t shirts) to instisting on a collar and tie

sowhatitsonlysnow · 17/01/2010 20:03

A male version of this

misshardbroom · 17/01/2010 20:15

why stop at just one of them? I could get them for DH and both DSes in varying sizes. How charming they will look
