Bikini - yes or no after dc?

mrsflux · 16/01/2010 13:06

My ds in 9 mo and we are starting to plan our summer holiday. It will probably be near a beach somewhere warm.
How do you know if you look ok in a bikini after dc?
My tummy is reasonably flat ish and the squishy bits are firming slowly. Is a bikini after dc a no no for all? Are stretch marks just wrong with a bikini?

I'm starting to stress as we will prob go with childless friends and she always looks hot. I don't feel old enough for a one piece yet!

I'm sure you'll look lovely but only wear it if you won't feel self conscious (nothing worse than wearing something you aren't comfortable in)

I think the 'my stomach is reasonably flat' means you'll be fine!

I had never worn a bikini before (3 kids) it wasn;t so much body shape as body colour, as I am the palest person in the world.

But last year went to Portugal with just gals and though sod it, why not. had a great time, saw some humungous women and some much slimmer women adn no one cared.

go for it.

dexter73 · 16/01/2010 13:13

I always wear a bikini on holiday and I have stretchmarks and wobbly bits!

Poppity · 16/01/2010 13:14

take a sarong, you can wear it like

this on almost brave days

this on not so brave ones

and this on days only full coverage will do!

mysteryfairy · 16/01/2010 13:40

If your boobs have gone a bit south I think bikini is more flattering than swimming costume overall as you can get decent support and a top that is your actual bra size rather than a generic size 10 or whatever.

I am a 32F though, guess it might not matter so much if you are a more conventional size.

hellsbelles · 16/01/2010 13:43

oh yes - I think it's fine as long as you feel confident and your tummy isn't folding over your fanjo. I have had to start getting those cup bikinis that actually hold everything in place...and I feel o.k. in those.

TheRomanceOfItAll · 16/01/2010 15:18

After 3 dc I wear a bikini to go swimming. I am a size 8 but my tummy is wobbly in the style of most people who have kids. It does not bother me really. Some people look better than me, others look worse. Such is life

harimosmummy · 16/01/2010 15:20

I have two kids under two and I still wear a bikini.

And they were both born by CS too...

I'd say go for it. If you feel happy, then you'll look happy!

TheBolter · 16/01/2010 15:22

Of course you can wear a bikini after dcs. If you feel confident enough, do it.

I am lucky in that I still pretty much have the same figure as I had at 21 (not QUITE as toned in the tum and perky in the boobs though) so I am still wearing a bikini with pride - and hope to do so for many years to come... I do think swimsuits can look ageing and have to be chosen carefully.

mrsflux · 16/01/2010 17:12

Thanks ladies! You've made me feel ok with the thought of a bikini- i was worried It was some sort of style faux pas unless you are model thin again.
Swim suits make me think of ladies who are 45+ and at 28 I am so not ready for one yet, well except for proper swimming of course.

I only ever wear bikinis and I am 43 and have had 2 kids

wear what you like

use a sarong too if you like (although for some reason, MN doesn't approve of sarongs )

or just underwired and padded bikini top (to enhance boobs) and nice loose denim shorts or swishy mini-skirt

you will be fine

I agree with the 'wear what makes you comfortable' school of thought. If you are comfortable in a bikini then go for it. If you want to take a one-piece as well though, they are much more fashionable now than they have been for a long time, think Melissa Odabash, cut-out one pieces, etc. Have a lovely holiday!

MaggieNilAonSneachta · 16/01/2010 17:32

I would but I wouldn't like anybody to see me bend over because when i bend over something really odd happens, some bits go in and some bits flap out, but it looks ok when i'm standing up.

so yes so long as i don't drop anything

MadameCastafiore · 16/01/2010 17:34

Go to Italy - even the hugest of women wear bikinis - gold lame type ones so a relatively thin toned woman in a tasteful bikini looks nice lying next to that!

Francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2010 17:34

I'm still wearing a bikini, and the older I get the less self conscious I feel.
Plus, I've had stretch marks on my tights since I was 14, I've learnt how to wear them with class !

jeminthecellar · 16/01/2010 17:36

Agree with do what you feel comfy with. To even wear a bikini you must be pretty hot anyway...

Francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2010 17:37

Exactly Madame. We are usually busy sunbathing in Italy, we don't notice what's around us

jemart · 16/01/2010 17:38

I woudn't, my tummy looks like blancmange.

jemart · 16/01/2010 17:39

my spelling is wrong isn't it....

janeite · 16/01/2010 17:39

You'll be fine. I have worn one for the last two summers, ever since Cod told me I ought to! And my stomach isn't even flat-ish. In Greece, nearly everybody wears them, whatever their size, so the people who stand out are those in black one pieces.

AnyFucker · 16/01/2010 17:48

stretchmarks on your tights ?

bloody hell....

Francagoestohollywood · 16/01/2010 19:27

sorry for the typo

SparrowFflamau · 16/01/2010 19:29

After the summer being pregnant in a bikini, I vow to wear one regardless now
