Rescue my Mols!

Posted on the other Mol/Mes thread, but it's a different question so thought I'd start a new thread.

I have black rugged Mols, but the leather's looking pretty awful after weeks of snow and ice and grit. If you've got a similar pair, what are you using to clean them - can I use normal shoe polish? If not, what?

TIA

Have exactly the same issue - white tidemarks - so will hover with interest if that's OK.

But of course.

Dammit, what if NONE of us know how to clean our Mols? We'll be hanging round in here forever, gazing sadly at our dirty boots...

"Sometimes, especially during the winter, salt from the road soaks into shoe leather. To remove road salt, try this simple household mixture: 1 part white vinegar 1 part water. Dampen a lint free white cloth and wipe away the salt. Be sure to follow up with cleaning and conditioning as salt can be very damaging to leather. This solution also works on leather jackets worn by motorcycle riders."

Oooh, thanks - that should sort the tide marks. Now just need something that will clean the leather afterwards.

Now I am sulking a little here because I saved up for a pair of Mes or Mols (the tall ones anyway) and they would not do up over my bid calves.

Surely, once you've done the vinegar thing for the tidemarks, a decent waxy shoe polish will do the rest. You can get some that are called "Colour restorer".

I use ordinary neutral polish on mine, they are still rugged etc, no salty marks yet either.

MuffinToptheMule · 15/01/2010 20:37

I've got salty marks all over mine. I'm not sure if mine are mes or mol, either way they look quite rubbish now.

I have some leather cream from jones. It if fab on soft leather of any colour including handbags. Like hand cream for leather! That might help revive the leather- I've seen sil use it on some boots that looked destroyed -they came up good as new!
Word of warning woman in shop said do with fingers- I had blue hands for a week!
