Waist clincher after giving birth - yes or no?

I'm due in 5 weeks and thinking about buying this. Is it a good idea?

I have some friends that swear by them to pull your muscles together, but I believe they're not advisable anymore?

Thanks everyone.

I suppose I am influenced by all my friends back home who swear by them....

The way my dh puts it, muscles are like elastic bands. After pregnancy they get overstreched and loose; you can push them together with the cincher, but unless they're actually repaired and elastic again it won't make any difference.

I'm not sure I'm 100% convinced, but I suppose it makes some sense..... Maybe I won't buy one just now....

i wore support pant as soon as i could bear to after my c section with DC2, ie after about a week. as it took ages to get back in shape after DC1 and I was determined to try and snap back quicker.

but i dont think it did any good as i found when i wore them i bled loads more, probably coz they were squeezing too hard, and it hurt both my cs scar and my tummy, ouch

uurgh it makes me cringe writing this, cant believe i went to such lengths

also i might add i was back in my normal size 8 clothes after 2 weeks post birth anyway so didnt really need to worry in any case!

well the waist cinchers also serve another purpose which is to help you sit and stand strait. They help correct/balance the posture.

It did make me quite self conscious and reminded me to tilt my pelvis forward and sit with my back straight against the chair when breastfeeding.

I would have laughed it off in the UK, but am in Asia and it is an age old custom here to wrap mothers tightly to help their spine to heal and "expel wind" as they say.
But it is all part of a very nurturing process not a fashion diktat.

See, you had not looked at it his way

DC1 & 2 are 14 mths apart and I suffered from a really bad back and poppy out stomach muscles. My physio said super strong control pants were the best cure as they encourage you to think about and therefore suck your stomach muscles in.

My muscles are trashed but with the help of my control pants I was back in pre preg jeans within a week of all three of my births.

I think they are a good idea, but I have a bad lower back and think that anything which helps keep you sitting up straight etc is good.
Have to admit to having a stash of Agent Provocateur cinchers which I bought and never used...
OP if you want to buy one cheap just CAT me.
And you wear them over knickers, not instead of....
