Can we compile on this thread all those cheap wonder products!! My skin care regime needs work but so does my purse so would love to find some bargain stuff that works!

Sorry, should have explained.

AHAs are water soluble on work on the skin surface, sloughing off dry and dead skin.

BHAs are oil based and penetrate pores, helping to dislodge oil in the skin that causes spots etc.

Both act as exfoliants.

I'm loving this thread! I've been using Astral on my face twice a day and bio oil at night on face and neck and my skin looks fabulous I'm going to mix a bit of fake tan in with the astral though now as I'm looking a bit pasty

Will have to try the aspirin & milk combo...

noddyholder · 15/01/2010 18:34

avon liposome cream

JeremyVile · 15/01/2010 18:36

Cornsilk loose powder, imo and vast experience, is as good as any expensive brand.
(but only the original satin, semi-matte is very dulling and has way too much pigmentation).

JeremyVile · 15/01/2010 18:38

Re the aspirin face mask - apparently this is to be avoided if prone to thread veins.

Aldi

I think 'Simple' products are all very good.

And since having kids and cutting back on cosmetics, I rate Boots No 7 highly too. Especially when they have the 3 for 2 offers on.

FanjolinaJolie · 15/01/2010 18:44

Please can you elaborate on the Aldi product? Is it any good?

sowhatitsonlysnow · 15/01/2010 18:48

Yes, the Aldi stuff is really thick and creamy, feels like it's doing some good. Frankly I feel too old & knackered to tell if it real works.

I had the Aldi cream before Christmas when Santa bought me some Protect and Perfect. It was quite nice, did the job, smelt a bit horrible, but for 2 quid what do you want!

Romanarama · 15/01/2010 19:17

There are lots of websites with reviews. Have a look at savvy skin which also has lots of links to other places.

I don't believe that the contents of a pot of CdlM cost them anything like 25 quid. I would have guessed 2.50. Probably much less if it's nivea with some extra seaweed.

kateecass · 15/01/2010 20:22

Boots do a product Pregnancy Wonderbalm that is really really similar to 8 hour cream.

I had both when pregnant. The Boots one is actually nicer to use on your lips. It doesn't have a nasty taste like 8 hour cream. It's only £1.99.

Think if my 8 hour cream ever runs out I'll have to get some more.

MimsyStarr · 17/01/2010 13:01

Simple has rated well on a Which consumer test. And the Nivea Q10 stuff.

here's the article

I've never used anything more than E45 lotion, morning and night, with Collection 2000 powder foundation dirt cheap and fantastic.

I am 50 and never get put at my age, and often get asked what I use.

(although I am a firm beliver alot of it is down to genes, both my parents never looked thier age)

MummyTumble · 17/01/2010 17:07

Another lover of Astral cream here too....i use it as a night cream. Get a massive tub and it lasts for ages.

MummyTumble · 17/01/2010 17:09

Collection 2000 eyeliner is great, last for ages and hardly rubs off ...only a couple of quid.

MumtoEliane · 17/01/2010 17:28

Taking notes for the dry skin products maybe for later in life as my skin now is mixed. Oily in some parts but a bit tight after I wash it.

At the moment I use Clinique Anti-Blemish oil free mosturizer, but is not anti wrinkle, and at 31 I am starting to have some around the eyes so want to start trying some anti-ageings too. Any ideas for mixed skin products?

pollywollydoodle · 20/01/2010 11:54

sneezy thanks for the aspirin/milk face mask...did it last night, followed by my usual night cream and my skin looks great (blackheads gone, looks brighter) and feels really soft.

I made it a bit sloppy so i rubbed the remains into my hands ...i had to wash it off after 5 mins to do something else but they are softer and brighter too
