Need help with posh shoes that aren't heels

I've got to go to a couple of things where posh frock is required. One is sadly a funeral next week, the other is a Christening later in the year.

I'm on the 'use it up' thread and won't be buying a new frock, as I have several posh ones I've never used, however I am stuck for shoes.

I very very rarely go out anywhere to dress up for, and am not good in heels, also I find they elongate my skinny calves too much which looks a bit odd, the rest of me isn't that skinny but ankles are apparently too thin!

I'm desperately trying to think what sort of footwear will be appropriate.
I have one pair of wedge type heels but they are bright red so not appropriate for either occasion!

Does anyone else have similar issues and have you found a suitable compromise?

Btw I am not great at little flat pumps or sandals either as my feet are HUGE, so something with a gentle heel and a bit of substance would be good.

Thankyou

Btw I also wondered if wearing boots (smart ones) would be inappropriate with posh frock, for next week? It is still rather cold!

for a day event in the current weather I'd consider boots if you have them, then probably wedges for the christening

x-posted, def boots if they are dressy but it does rather depend on the dress - they'd look funny with something frilly but fine with one that's a bit more tailored/less revealing.

Thanks MrsB, appreciated...hmm, dress is fairly straight and tailored, might be fine.
I'll prob keep coat on in any case!

Am looking at stuff like these but prob a bit workish?

I dunno. Not very good at this!

...and I love these but sadly am not a 3

i'll find something...just a bit dodgy trying to find something to cover both occasions.

FlightAttendant · 14/01/2010 13:16

hmm

Are they too young? I am mid thirties! But will go well with flowery Anthologie summer dress i think.

Not too young at all! I like Clarks (I am 38) as I can't stand being crippled all day by badly fitting skyscrapers!

Have a look at the mid-heeled shoes in www.topshop.co.uk - sorry can't seem to highlight the link.

Loads of lovely (non-mumsy) styles.

FlightAttendant · 14/01/2010 17:33

Mm thankyou there are some nice ones...meanwhile have ordered those Clarks ones to see what they are like, they're only available online but returns are free apparently.

There I was hoping to avoid buying any more shoes this year!!
