Which jeans look best on a big arse? Levi's?

Not to put too fine a point on it, I am very large of bottom. To make matters more complicated I have fairly short legs for my frame - I'm 5'7" and a 30" leg. Recent trips to hunt out jeans have left me somewhat crestfallen; I am at a loss to what will suit and end up sweaty and furious, wrestling with five pairs of utterly inappropriate jeans and then leaving in a big huff.

A friend suggested that I try Levi's as their cuts are apparently more sympathetic to my booty - is this true, or can you recommend any other brands? Have any of the more ample-bottomed among you won the battle of the changing rooms?

I usually wear a 16 and have a 33" waist - I just tried to measure my hips and the tape measure that I nicked from Ikea won't even nearly go all the way round and it stops at 40"

any ideas....?

You could try AppleBottoms. I really love mine, they are so flattering on the arse! I'm not the same size as you so not sure about that side of things I'm afraid, but as far as flattering on the bum Apple Bottoms are the way to go.

Jacksmama · 12/01/2010 23:19

A friend of mine who is your build swears by Apple Bottoms and Boom-Boom Jeans. She said she got them online somewhere. I will ask her or you could Google them. But her butt looks fabulous in her jeans!

Eek - I wish that I could get away with diamanté apples on my buttocks but I fear that I am a bit too dull.. Is there anything a bit less.. erm.. fruity?

Boom Boom Jeans. Google them.

ThisCharmingFlan · 13/01/2010 19:35

Found them - thanks Jacksmama. They all look quite tight though, not sure if I'm brave enough.

I'm really after some that don't have any stretch (or hardly any) as my bum vs. Lycra is never a fair contest, even in when it's hidden in denim!

Hmmm. Well, I wouldn't say that my friend looks her best in Lycra (far from it, TBH) but these jeans do wonders for her butt. Really.

Don't know what else to advise you, but hopefully this will bump your thread and someone will come along who knows of the perfect jeans.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 14/01/2010 10:09

at the bum-bling! I'd agree with Jacksmama that lycra is your friend, but unfortunately it's a case of trying them all on (and we ALL hate trying on jeans).

Good luck with the search

DecorHate · 14/01/2010 10:15

I think the key is the top you wear rather than the jeans - you need a top that is thigh-length (or longer). Even a small bum can look huge if the top stops at the waist, esp if the jeans go up to the waist rather than sit at the hips. In fact, if you have a big difference between your waist and hip measurement, it is hard to get jeans to fit properly unless you do go for ones that sit at the hip...

ande · 14/01/2010 11:11

You need to decide how you want your bum to appear, ie accentuate/disguise/minimise..

EG, You would like your bum to appear smaller and pertter and longer legs = Dark jeans, hip not waist fit and pockets on the bum should be low (ie the top of them should start well below the top of the jeans).Always ensure the length is to floor.

Try Top Shop

Good luck!

Jacksmama · 14/01/2010 15:06

See, I knew someone would come along who knows more!
at bum-bling. I read that as "bumbling" with emphasis on the "bum". LOL.

vanloadtovenice · 14/01/2010 15:27

Hmm,

This is tricky, if your legs are quite good apart from being a bit out of proportion, I would try the scarlett jean at Oasis, in the plain dark wash.

They are mid rise, and a slim boot cut.

I really hope they work!

LaDiDaDi · 14/01/2010 15:31

Ooh I like those Apple Bottoms! Are they generally true to size?

Claire2301 · 14/01/2010 15:35

I have some nice jeans from New Look which are 30" and quite flattering.

MadameMoe · 14/01/2010 15:40

Does anywhere near you stock Cambio jeans? They can be hard to find but they do loads of fits, band hights, cuts and styles, there will certainly be one to suit.

They are the only brand of jeans I've ever found that fit properly om me.

newgirl · 14/01/2010 15:52

i am pretty much the same proportions as you and the most flattering ones i have had were from new look - they dont last long but at £20 or so bargainous

i prefer them to seven for all mankind! I got some nice ons from Deisel too but their cuts vary so much you have to try them all!

Jacksmama · 14/01/2010 18:22

Apple Bottoms are true to size IME. I love them. I am a skinny-arsed twig and they give me a nice round, well, apple bottom!

TheFallenMadonna · 14/01/2010 18:26

I wear Gap curvy fit and they are pretty good.

ThisCharmingFlan · 14/01/2010 22:06

Cambio look just the ticket thanks MadameMoe - I might well get on a mission to hunt some out. I had a great pair of New Look ones once Claire2301 and had forgotten about them.

Ande - I never knew Topshop did a 34 waist 30 leg - marvellous. I'd have to order online as their changing rooms are like something out of Skins and make me feel about eighty. You're spot on about the proportions too.

thanks all - there is hope for me and my derriere

Marks and Spencer Per Una Jeans are very lush indeed. I wear mine all the time and my arse is mahoosive.

Montifer · 14/01/2010 23:34

After weeks of jeans hunting misery I discovered Falmer jeans at Matalan.
Sounds stylish I know but they do different leg lengths in many sizes and styles.

I was getting to the stage of being willing to pay any amount for a well fitting pair, so was delighted to find these were perfect and cost £12

The Slouch style is fab for my ginormous saddlebags pear shape.

I think wide set pockets on the bum are most flattering.

westmilf · 15/01/2010 00:57

Do you want to splash out? J-Brand are fab and really work wonders.I went with my SIL on a jeans finding mission.Importantly she sounds about the same size as you and the lovestory cut in a dark denim wash looked stunning. These jeans were really on-trend and only available inplaces like Selfridges at that time.Lucky for you I have recently spotted them in T.k maxx for less than a pair of high-st jeans.Considering the original rrp of 180-200 pounds,it is worth you having a trip out. These really are the equivalent of a Woderbra for the butt!

Also seven for all mankind-similar thing and now more readily available.

Final tip take someone whose opinion you KNOW you can TRUST with you shopping.
