Bright auburn hair - how high maintenance would a dye-job be, do you reckon

I am naturally darkish brown (with a good amount of grey) which I routinely dye a kind of chestnutty colour.

I must have change! I hanker after the kind of colour Marcia Cross has in Desperate Housewives.

Is hers natural? Surely not. It looks lovely though. She's quite pale, whereas I'm more sallow / olive toned - would that make a difference d'ya reckon?

How much of a fag would it be to get mine to look like that (given that I am a lazy slattern not usually given to regular hair maintenance)?

It totally depends on how quickly your hair grows. I'd get it done professionally too (sorry if that's a given but not clear from your OP).

My hair grows really quickly and I have it done every three to four weeks. Most people go six to eight weeks between colour jobs, I think.

Once you've got the basic colour, though, you're probably talking an hour or hour and a half in the salon tops.

I have similar coloured hair before and after! Be aware that the reds fade the fastest and so can look washed out within a few weeks if you wash often. Mine grows really fast, so I have to do roots after 3 - 4 weeks.

I've got a dyed red bob and love it BUT very high maintenance, and can take a few goes to get the shade exactly right.

My hair grows quickly, so I have to have it done every 2-3 weeks - something really yucky about light roots.

Feel fab though

Every three weeks?

Ah, fergeddit. There is no way I could keep that up.

Why am I such a lazy arse? Why? Why?

What you could do (and it's much less maintenance) and might suit your skin tone better anyway is to have some auburn highlights? I'm not sure the very auburn look would necessarily work really well with your (lucky) mediterranean tones. My skin tone is naturally pale blue so the celtic thing is easy...

Or you could go the whole hog and model yourself on Penelope Cruz?

Oh, and you're not lazy, you're busy. Far too busy to have time for very high maintenance hair!
