Playroom storage?

Very much suspect that this is not an S&B question, due to not being about clothes or makeup and being most definitely unstylish and also rather ugly.

Still, I'm hoping one of you might know. I'm after some basic playroom storage. I was thinking of the kind that has plastic bins or boxes, like this one but it appears to be 70 bloody quid.

How can this be? It's some bleedin' MDF and plastic tubs, for crying out loud. I could knock it up myself for tuppence if I wasn't such a fat fingered lazy idiot.

This sort of thing must be available more cheaply. But where? Any ideas?

we have one from ikea, trofast, there are various combinations and shapes and sizes, I would really recommend it.
Otherwise, do you have a bookcase/shelves which you could customise by buying cheap plastic tubs/baskets from pound shop and arrange on the shelves (similar to the one you linked to)
Hope that makes sense!!

good lord, ikea!!!

they have loooaaads of wooden storage frames that you slot different sized (you pick them when you buy the stuff so its your choice, and they have big deep tubs too!±) tubs into.

they do a good step style wooden thing. def recommend it. if i can i'll get the range name, otherwise just go to childrens storage section on ikea wbsite to check?

plus if you live near an ikea sometimes stuff is in the bargain corner?

yousaidit · 09/01/2010 20:38

2 seconds and you bet me, humptynumpty!

but, obviously, great minds think alike

humptynumpty · 09/01/2010 20:43

lol @ yousaidit, we have 2 of those things and would def recommend, very sturdy, my kids jump all over it and nice because they can tidy up on their own!!

if you want slightly more longevity then ikea's besta bookcases with the samla boxes, can accomadate 3 sizes 11l 22l and 45l.

tassisssss · 09/01/2010 20:48

Homebase have a nice one on casters that takes 6 good sized plastic boxes (or we leave 2 of the spaces for books - perfect size for kids picture books.

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 09/01/2010 22:16

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 09/01/2010 22:18

bishboschone · 10/01/2010 08:23

we have a ikea product which is actually sold as a bookcase but comes in different sizes and coloured woods and you can choose baskets or material boxes. It holds loads and all my friends got one once they had sen mine. I will try and find link

bishboschone · 10/01/2010 08:26

here

comes in different sizes and colours

geordieminx · 10/01/2010 09:37

Trofast from ikea is also much better as once the stuff is put away you cannot see it.

God that one from Blooming marvellous is hideous!

LovelyWalters · 10/01/2010 09:40

i got one from Sainsbury's after Christmas - it's pretty ok for the dc's room

look here

cheap, boxes are sturdy fabric rather than plastic and it's not enormous so can fit in nicely

might get another actually

aarghhelp · 10/01/2010 10:55

Lazzari - attractive but 1) dear 2) gltc get poor reviews on mumsnet.

bishboschone · 10/01/2010 12:36

see you can do that with ikea for half the price

notanumber · 10/01/2010 21:47

Thank you all. You are very wise and clever and I am very grateful.

Oh God though, I'm going to have to go to Ikea.
