Straighteners - are they all equal?

Okay I am a complete virgin when it comes to straighteners. Any hairdressers/high maintainance bods around to explain what the difference is between the £127.99 ones used by the hairdresser and the £7.85 ones from Sainsburys (apart from the obvious financial difference)?

I have the Sainsbury's ones (no prizes for guessing that) and they seem okay but I don't have the glossy finish I had from the hairdresser's ones. Did she use a different product (heat protector type thing) do you think or are her straighteners just superior all round?

the heat protector would help but i think the material of the plates and the temp helps too.

i have found that my ghd's are so much better to any other straighteners that i have ever used. i was reluctant to spend that much so brought 'lesser' ones that were still about £50 but the finish was noway near the ghd finish even using a heat protector spray.

hairdressers will always do it better, that's why they are hairdressers

ghds all the way for me im afraid. pricy, but worth it IMO

I was loathed to buy GHD's - even though I have quite thick, wavy hair.

I used to spend about £30-£40 every year on lesser breands. Then dh bought me some for xmas - about 4 years ago - they are still in perfect condidition, and hav paid for themselves. They take seconds to heat up to about 230 deg, and really give you a smooth silky finish.

Wouldnt be without them. ever.

has to be ghd's, i am in love with mine

honestly , they have changed my mornings! don't use them daily but when i do, i'm happy with how my hair looks for the first time ever

heard that the babyliss 230 ones were just about as good as ghd's so got them first. they are pretty good and will keep them as a fall back but then saw ghd's on asos for about £80, decided to splash out and they are FAB

would never go back. well worth the dosh.
