I like the model on the front cover.
And the snow cone machine.

ImHarrietHarman · 08/01/2010 17:52

dont liek thos red fish nets
looks like boied lobster legs

what is the point of it?

Cybils · 08/01/2010 17:52

Whats it about? Is it just recognising classic design? I couldn't read the small print but I like it when a mag says 'if you like this, you'll like this..' or shows you where you can get modern replicas or similar of what is in mag

rosiejoy · 08/01/2010 17:58

I like the pics of eral people showing their style...

at the front there are photos of events, maybe include info of upcoming events?

rosiejoy · 08/01/2010 17:58

i meant REAL people of course!

alliscalm · 08/01/2010 18:00

The design looks good, obviously the content is aeons below my age group so I am not the target audience.
Sorry to be picky, but TV presenter Judith Chalmers is spelt wrong (Charmers)on a Q&A with a couple I had never heard of.

ImHarrietHarman · 08/01/2010 18:01

id not think
"Mm yes i must see someone wearing my grans old coat"

Karrierbag · 08/01/2010 18:02

Love everything about it 'Malice in Wonderland' article was fab as was all the fashion bits.. Love love love it!

noddyholder · 08/01/2010 18:02

I like it Anything creative and individual is worth producing it doesn't have to have a point really! The model on teh cover is v cute

ProudAsPunch · 08/01/2010 18:16

Hey guys thanks - (tho he is now beating himself up over the Chalmers typo).

What is it about.... it is about the retro influence on modern day lifestyle, and is hoping to appeal to men and women who love retro / design classics.

Just had very quick look, but i love this sort of stuff, i love the 'real people' shots, think their style in inspiring. If i could think of anything else to include i would say that i would like to see more real rooms, as apposed to just shots of individual pieces of furniture. But not sure if that is the sort of thing he would cover in this magazine?

alliscalm · 09/01/2010 00:50

Proud, tell him not to beat himself up. As you might have guessed, I am a journalist and have nothing but admiration for anyone attempting this sort of thing in the present climate. Good luck!

ProudAsPunch · 09/01/2010 07:45

Thanks again.
That's a great idea Plantwoman, at the moment he is doing this with zero budget - (all the contributors are doing it as portfolio builders i.e. for free too). He'd love to do the real rooms shots - though needs to find people willing to have their homes photographed - which is harder to do than stopping people in the street. Any thoughts?

Alliscalm - still as a sub he feels he should have picked it up - but writing, designing and subbing all your own stuff is bound to be tough.

OP posts:
skihorse · 09/01/2010 07:48

If it's all on a budget can you please let him know that I'm prepared to give "bed and board" to that rather attractive young man on the front cover?

ProudAsPunch · 09/01/2010 08:42

Hehe, Skihorse - will pass your offer on!

OP posts:
alliscalm · 09/01/2010 09:06

Well, if the homes are as stylish as so many women on this forum, you have a large pool to ask here?

I'm a sub too. If he's doing it all himself he needs a proof-reader, you can't possibly catch everything. I'm freelance and quite busy but if I had time I would happily proof read his next project if he would like. For free, obviously.

ProudAsPunch · 09/01/2010 09:14

Wow thanks Alliscalm - think he may well take you up on the offer if your time allows.

Not sure where I'm allowed to ask for MNttrs pics - which thread would you expect to see such things? Media requests cost £ I think.

alliscalm · 09/01/2010 09:22

Since I posted I have been looking on the site to see if and where it would be possible. Might be worth an email to the administrators. The other way would be to post a question and invite MNetters to email with info, does he have a business email address for eg? Not sure if MN classifies that as advertising, though.

alliscalm · 09/01/2010 09:32

PS I've noticed an info@ email address at the bottom of your link, and have sent details.

ProudAsPunch · 09/01/2010 11:13

(have sent you a response - thanks)

Like the mag- I live in a seventies timewarp, so right up my street.

Could do with some more archive photographs of interiors, fashion etc. Us vintage junkies like to work from originals

And PLEASE address the photo cropping issue on the style pages- a couple of the photos have been squashed rather than cropped, and look weird. Schoolboy error.

Otherwise great, and good luck

Maize · 09/01/2010 14:56

Really minor point but on one of the real life fashion people thingys the question is where did you get your shoes from, but you can't actually see the girls's shoes in the photo.

Otherwise v.g.

shandyleer · 09/01/2010 15:09

I loved it too, especially the top 5 gadgets and street style pieces. I also think something on "real" rooms would be great - you know those people who live their lives as closely as possible to whichever era fascinates them - would be great to see some of their homes.

Haven't time just now, but intend to have a look at the website of the blitz party people also. Think your hubby should be proud, he's obviously very talented.

ProudAsPunch · 10/01/2010 09:42

Thanks for the additional comments.

Maize - do you mean the area of the photo was not sharp enough to see the shoes clearly or you couldn't see them at all?

Shandyleer - I agree the Blitz party looks fab (and the people who run it are lovely)- and dh is planning to get someone to write a feature on them before too long (anyone on MN with writing experience who fancies a couple of free tickets??!)

Thethersend - Y'know the guy who looks incredible skinny... well dh checked with Christina (who took the pics) - he really was that lanky!

PAP Is your dh in brighton?
I am an interior designer/developer and am thinking of renovating a typical 60s/70s house in teh hope of making people see what great hoses they are if done well. They are abundant in brighton and are generally in areas with good schools but are half the price for a comparable sized period house.I am thinking 70s conran style lots of light and space. Is this the sort of thing he may include in the mag as I plan to document it!
