Probably would go for a jersey wrap style in a plain colour, maybe charcoal.

In my younger days I would have gone for a black jersey mini which I could have worn as a dress or as a tunic. In fact I still have said dress (must dig it out and see how it looks with jeggings/jeans)

I think a plain knitted dress - how about something like this? (Not sure that one is actually 'knitted' though.)

Needs to be something simple and unpatterned imo, then you can ring the changes with accessories.

and blouses this from toast might be good depending on height and norks, I would go for short sleeves or no sleeves then it can be layered.

what about a sleevless tunic type dress - that way you can layer roll neck tops of long sleeve t-shirts under it for day wear when it's cold, you can wear it with or without leggings and with ballet pumps for day or heals for night time
