I am at my wits end with my hair...
It is wavy (not properly curly) and long, past my shoulders. I spent 2 years growing out my fringe, as fine wavy hair and fringes just don't work, but now it just hangs there and unless i spent time straightening it, it seem to hang in rat tails - most unattractive...
Since having my daughter a year ago, it has got worse, it feels so thin and I have grown lovely tufty bits since I stopped feeding her, which a now about 3 inches long and are particularly noticable around my hairline.
I just want to chop the whole lot off and start again.
This would be a massive thing for me, I have always had long hair.
I was thinking about a longish bob, with maybe a sweeping type fringe (not too short), but I can't find any suitable styles on the internet, they are just far to extreme for the school run!!!
please help

i have long hair and i had about 3 inches cut off - thats really all it took for me for it to feel thick and larvelly.

so i would suggest doing this first - and then you can go have a new do if you still feel wanky about it

plantwoman · 07/01/2010 21:14

hmmm know what you mean - I am just in a bit of a 'new year new you' type of mood at the moment.
That is prob not a good thing.....

suggest something you bumfuckers

luckyblackcat · 09/01/2010 00:50

I quite like this layered bob but not sure it would work on waves.

I'm considering a fringe - haven't had one since mid teens

Furball · 09/01/2010 07:52

something like this? although it has a fringe, you could probably get it with a sweeping fringe?

Furball · 09/01/2010 07:56

or this?

plantwoman · 10/01/2010 12:14

Furball - thanks like 1st one, But I don't want a proper fringe again, it has taken me 2 years to grow mine out
Really like the 2nd but one looks like it would take several hours of styling to achieve, by which time kids would be late for school, or I would have to get up at 5am to do it, so maybe not.
How do they get models hair so shiny????

Toolbar en-gb.www.mozilla.com/en-GB/firefox/central/ news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/de fault.stm this?

Chop it off which will be a good start and then put product in it and leave to dry naturally. Sort of bedhead hair!

Lovely

confetti · 10/01/2010 12:19

this?

If you prefer a longer style?

trace2 · 10/01/2010 12:22

i need a new style but need to know weather a hair style would suit me! is there any where you can put your face on a style to suit you on line? i have a fat round face.

trace2 · 10/01/2010 12:23

oops sorry for hijack!

Montifer · 10/01/2010 12:32

My hair sounds very similar to yours and is much better since I went for a longish bob. It always seem to fall into a centre parting no matter how I try and influence it, so some layers help to give volume and prevent the dreaded curtains effect.

I didn't take a pic to my hairdresser, just explained how my hair used to be, what was different now (also changed post pg) and asked him to work his magic

I've also started trying this and it seems good so far.

I don't miss my long hair, it has much more life since I went shorter and I don't just tie it up all the time now.

Montifer · 10/01/2010 12:36

....also, finding a hairdresser who I think is great has made the biggest difference to my hair.

I had previously done the rounds of all of the high street 'big names' and had a series of cuts I hated.

If you want a recommendation of a fab hairdresser in Manchester (city centre) I'd be very happy to recommend him

plantwoman · 10/01/2010 13:20

Montifer - I just went on to your link to the other thread sleepsforwimps hair looks amazing now and her early pictures look similar to my hair, so that method obviously worked for her, when I get chance later I will read the curlygirls website link. I don't think I use silicone based products on my hair though, as they do make it greasy and flat.
i am using aussie miracle moist and 3 miniute miracle at the moment.

I did find a really good hairdresser a couple of years ago, the sort that cuts your hair to suit it, rather than copying pictures of other peoples styles, but he was so good, it was a nightmare getting an appointment, and I can't afford him now anyway since having DD.
I just go to a friend to have it done.

Montifer - if you are still around - I am a bit confused about the curly girl method (I haven't read the entire thread...)
Do I wash my hair with aussie shampoo and condition as normal and then after that start 'washing' it with conditioner?
Do I wash it with conditioner and then condition it as well?
I cannot find an explanation of plopping anywhere!!! Please feel free to fill me in!!!
Thanks

I looked up plopping on google - so am clear about that now!
I am going to start and try the curlygirl method tonight, see what happens, if it looks dreadful I can wash it again in the morning.
I have an appointment on tues to get my hair cut.
If I am going to attempt to enhance my curls I think it wouldn't be a good idea to have any kind of fringe thing cut back in, so think i am going to just have a few inches off the length.
I have been saying for years that I want to ditch the straighteners and make the most of my waves, but never been very happy with the result.
Maybe the curlygirl method might be the answer

Plantwoman - it does seem quite involved doesn't it

I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, have only just embarked on the Curly journey and have just 'washed' with Tea tree and mint conditioner being sure to give my scalp a good massage to get it clean.
Then applied the Umberto Giannini scrunching gel stuff whilst it was still quite wet and resisted the urge to comb through.
Tied it loosely up in a towel - not sure if you could consider that true plopping and then scrunched dry with hairdryer / diffuser.
I usually let my hair dry naturally, but think it really is far too cold for that sort of behaviour at the moment.

I'm no expert but think the folk on the aforementioned links are.
If you have questions I'm sure they would have the answers.

I too am hoping this revives the splendid curls I used to have

plantwoman · 11/01/2010 13:30

Hi montifer - thanks.
I went up to boots this morning, after spending what seemed like hours reading the british curlies website and trying to decifer all the shorthand for all these various 'poo's and co's!!!
Think I have got it sussed, sort of.
I couldn't get the tee tree and mint, but got Boots own conditioner rosemary and mint, plus some Fructis repair and shine and some gel.
I am willing to try anything. I too would love to revive my once lovely curls!
