Kerastase Devotee needs to budget - pls suggest some cheaper but good alternatives?

I can't justify continuing to buy my Kerastase shampoo and conditioner every month. It's costing about £30. I wash my hair every day and so am getting through the stuff at a ridiculous rate.
Can anyone suggest a decent mid range alternative? I have thick, short and coloured hair which has a tendency to be dry but gets greasy roots by the end of the day (attractive, eh?)
I have just downsized from Clinique skin care to the Boots No7 range without any pain at all and so am hoping for similar with hair products but have no clue. Any help gratefully received!
Thanks.

i use andrew collinge for coloured hair. like it alot

deaddei · 07/01/2010 20:24

John Frieda ooloured hair range is good.

OpheliaPain · 07/01/2010 20:27

i reckon save on shampoo( soap after all) and splurge on conditioner

MIl bought me the TIGI stuff and i love it

LaurieFairyCake · 07/01/2010 20:28

agree with ditch the posh shampoo and just buy the conditioner. And try ebay, lots of people selling stolen unwanted christmas presents on there.

wifeofdoom · 07/01/2010 20:30

I used to use kerastase but now use brilliant brunette, but keep the kerastase oleo relax serum.

bluebump · 07/01/2010 20:35

I like Aussie or Charles Worthington, usually on offer in supermarkets or Boots etc.

hatcam · 07/01/2010 20:51

Herbal Essences Seductively Straight, have given up my expensive shampoo/conditioner habit in favour of this, it's brilliant and cheap as chips. Even if was feeling flush I wouldn't bother swapping back now.

ForestFloor · 07/01/2010 20:55

I was told L'Oreal make Kerastase products. I swap between the orange Kerastase stuff (for rebelleous, damaged hair) and the orange L'Oreal Elvive ones. That regime seems to work fine .

Francagoestohollywood · 07/01/2010 21:07

I have very dry hair and I love Pantene Pro V shampoo and conditioner. I alternate Pantene with more expensive stuff.

cornsilkscatholichamster · 07/01/2010 21:11

Philip Kingsley stuff is lovely. Not cheap but the litre bottles work out good value over time at £30 each.

BelleDameSansMerci · 07/01/2010 21:15

I second the L'Oreal stuff comment. Whenever there's a new Kerastase product a new, similar, L'Oreal product in slightly brighter coloured packaging appears a couple of months later. I believe they are a sort of budget version of Kerastase.

I have very thick coloured hair, which gets greasy at the roots daily (although mine is long). I use Charles Worthington at the moment but I tend to rotate the hair products as I think my hair "gets used to them". I like the Paul Mitchell stuff too but not sure it's much cheaper than Kerastase.

Barbsieboo · 07/01/2010 21:21

I have swapped my kerstase habit for aussie shampoo and so far its great - but I have kept my kerastase leave in conditioner. Its a tough one though because the risk is always trying lots of cheaper alternatives and spending a fortune finding a replacement - good luck!!

Thanks so much,
Lots of good suggestions here and I'll pop into boots tomorrow with those in mind. Think I may try the L'Oreal stuff as they do in fact make Kerastase and I'll deffo bear in mind the suggestion about using expensive conditioner but cheaper shampoo.
May try Aveda when I'm flush again but it's on a par with Kerastase price-wise.Paul Mitchell stuff seems to really strip my hair to the point that I can't get my fingers through it when it's wet! Kind of shows that it's not always the price of the product that determines whether it suits you!
I used Pantene years ago and my hair loved it but my hairdresser advised me that it coats your hair in a residue and to use neutrogena to clean it off - dunno how accurate that was either!
Many thanks for the suggestions thus far.

I like the sunsilk stuff. I use brilliantly brunette but they do a blonde one and a red haired one as well. Smells yummy. Its usually £1.

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 08/01/2010 07:53

I adore Kerastase as well but can't afford a solo habit so alternate with these tresemme moisture and they are fantastic. Tried the colour version and it wasn't as good.

slim22 · 08/01/2010 08:04

L'Oreal elseve range very good.

Also in favor of herbal essences shampoos ( they wash out very well leaving little residue) + splurge on color treated hair conditioner.
There is s very good L'oreal professional haircare range sold at hairdressers and (where I live at least) much cheaper than Kerastase.

myalias · 08/01/2010 08:06

Another Kerastase fan here. I got some James Brown coloured shampoo and conditioner for combination hair -it's fantastic. Hair was very shiney and gave my highlights more definition. Boots stock it. Also a cheaper option is the Pantene repair shampoo which is very good.

pinkhousesarebest · 08/01/2010 09:22

Try L'Oreal Elsève Re Nutrition, with royal jelly. French Elle gave it top marks in their brilliant budget buys.

aquavit · 08/01/2010 11:21

I used to love kerastase too and I found that the l'oreal serie expert range was almost as good (but whereas I used the volumising kerastase stuff, I had to use the serie expert stuff for dry hair as their volumising one not moisturising enough). Don't like the l'oreal stuff you can get in the shops though - makes my hair floppy and frizzy. You can get the serie expert stuff from hairdressers or discounted online.

I know people find that a cheap shampoo and expensive conditioner is good - but I'm the other way around (even though have dry hair) - if the shampoo is good, then the conditioner doesn't need to be amazing.

These days I'm on a no-sulphates, no-silicones regime though, and my hair has never been better. Currently using waitrose organic stuff for dry hair.

ColdBunny · 08/01/2010 15:24

Stick to Kerastase but buy it online from the Channel islands. Much cheaper and they deliver within 2 days! Also remember that you need about 1/2 as much as with other products. It is super-concentrated.

Louise Galvin is good. I too avoid all the parabens when I can. www.louisegalvin.com/product-range/
