Tell me about your favourite outfits for daytime

I love the "what are you wearing today" threads but given that most of us are under several inches of snow right now I assume that we are looking at practical rather than necessarily sartorially pleasing outfits (for myself, I have spent the whole day vegging in Hush wide leg trousers and cotton henley together with Uggs. Haven't actually left the house today!)

So:

What's your favourite outfit for day generally? Details to include: accessories and footwear choices please

I haven't stopped going out today! I love snow and so does my dog so we have been out loads today.
I am wearing skinny jeans, a red heat tech top and long hooded grey cashmere cardy.

4andnotout · 06/01/2010 21:00

My favorite outfit is something dp bought me for christmas, a red and black tartan tunic shirt with a red scarf, black leggings and either black uggs or red patent croc dm's, an inexpensive and probably unfashionable outfit but it is Me completely.

dexter73 · 06/01/2010 21:03

Sorry I have now actually read your post properly! I usually wear, well, something very similar to what I am wearing today. I have a long beaded necklace on and usually wear boots in the winter.
If I'm not in jeans I like skirts (usually above the knee but not really mini) and scoop neck tops with a jumper/cardy and boots.

sowhatitsonlysnow · 06/01/2010 21:03

err, you really don't want to know as it's totally snow day appropriate. I do a lot of walking with the dog so am a sado fleece, gore-tex jacket, walking trousers/walking boot girl

JaneiteIsAWimpyTeacher · 06/01/2010 21:06

I have two absolute favourites:

  1. A silk skirt with cherries on it, just above the knee and a bit flouncy - worn with a long-sleeved grey top and a short sleeved longish grey cardigan, thick tights and brown knee-high boots

  2. A pink silk dress with flowers on it, just above the knee and slightly A-line, worn with a poloneck under it and same long cardigan and boots

duckyfuzz · 06/01/2010 21:08

today:
walking trousers,
long t shirt (length adn sleeves)
berghaus base layer
down jacket
hat
gloves
walking boots

usually (winter casual):
jeans
jumper/cardigan
boots
some sort of white stuff type necklace

MrsSeanBean · 06/01/2010 21:22

I've spent the day in jeans, cashmere socks, flat pumps, and a new 'mushroom' colour White Company nightie (like this but in 'blossom') which I found so comfortable I wore it tunic-like over the jeans. Have also not left the house all day, except to build snowman with DS, for which I added Boden cable knit beret, spotty scarf, rainy day mac, velvet Dents gloves.

Hmm, normal daywear. I suppose a classic this winter would be (work or non-slobbing):

just above knee length wool/ cord/ moleskin skirt
thick ribbed tights
flat boots
Multiple layers of thin t-shirt style tops: long vest under shorter long sleeve crew under short sleeve scoop, maybe with a wide Hobbs belt and crop cardi over it all if extra cold

Paisley pattern fine wool scarf loosely looped around neck snood style, to tie all the colours together

Some dangly ceramic NoaNoa earrings DH got me last month in Cirencester which I'm in love with.

At home I like jersey Yoga style pants with similar t-shirt set up on top. Maybe also a long wrap / waterfall style cardigan on top.

sowhatitsonlysnow · 06/01/2010 21:25

MrsSB please tell me this "velvet Dents gloves" is a joke......for building snowman!

MrsSeanBean · 06/01/2010 21:45

No joke! They were the only gloves to hand (no pun intended) and are surprisingly hardy. I found them at the back of the wardrobe earlier this year (they had a slighly musty smell) so am not too precious about them anyway. The snow probably did them good

eshermummy · 06/01/2010 22:06

Today was wearing

this american vintage taupe rollneck with
this dress in chocolate, brown ribbed wool tights from levante and this scarf in cocoa

to go out in snow with dd's added these boots,
black empire line puffa from H&M and a black russian cossack style (fake) fur hat.

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/01/2010 22:10

Bloody hell you lot are smart!

In my mind I dress like you but in reality I drag on some leggings; find a long sleeved t-shirt; and heft one of my DP's old jumpers over the top (I'm 5'5", he's 6'4" so you can imagine how, ahem, loose it is).

If I go into the office though, I'm all Audrey Hepburn-esque in outfits from L K Bennet etc.

AnInginAneAnA · 06/01/2010 23:27

I like my yumi dress/tunic, with tights/leggings and brown fly boots, usually I wear it with a long skinny cardigan and a thin scarf. It is casual, but feels like I made an effort (not to wear jeans).

I love it, because it is comfortable and stretchy but fitted, I really feel great in it, I wear it on a Saturday usually, because during the week I hike (slight exaggeration) to school and it is freezing, wet, muddy and cold, so I just wear lots of layers of clothes.

Chuffinnora · 06/01/2010 23:35

Today
Vest, thick leggings, tunic/short dress, scarf, long cardi (Pauline Fowler style), ugg boots.
To take DC to school add a thick winter coat and a cashmere (get me!) grey hat.
Was still freezing though despite tucking my vest into my leggings.

Tomorrow I think I'll wear the duvet all day.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 06/01/2010 23:50

MrsSeanBean I have that nightie also. Haven't worn it in the day yet but love slipping into it well before bedtime.
I also have that matching trousers (finally wearing grown up nightwear).

I'm an SAHM so, much as I'd love to wear dresses with tights and boots all the time, I usually end up in jeans (dark, hopefully flattering and bootcut), with a hopefully attractive and warm jumper (always low-cut to accommodate G-cups) and a lacy vest underneath for extra warmth and modesty.

Always have a nice scarf when going out and usually a knitted beret ATM, although hats don't really flatter me but can't bear a cold head.

I find a reasonably posh coat covers a multitude of sins at this time of year, although am reluctantly wearing a ski jacket for ultimate warmth atm.
