Posh frock

I am going to a very posh party the weekend after next and then to a charity ball. I had planned to go into the big city this week to look for a dress, but I am stuck here. I have been looking online, but I can't find a dress that fits the bill.

Has anyone noticed anything nice online that might fit the bill? I am short with an hourglass figure (I need a 16 for my bust). I tend to suit 1950s-style dresses and I am also a sucker for bias cut with a bit of beading/ glitz for a party. I don't really enjoy wearing black and I look best in rich colours.

I have looked at Coast, Jaeger, Monsoon, Debenhams, Anusha. Help!

Some lovely dresses at www.jameslakeland.net.

Thanks, MF (have just GOT your name!).
I have contacted them in the past re the length of their dresses and I think that I am just too short for them. I do love them.

I will have a good look at the James Lakeland site later. Thanks, OurLady.

Lovely purple but neckline might not be right?

Or Dark red, but maybe the wrong shape.

Thanks for the Barbara Browbn link, Tethersend. Fab stuff, but sadly too late to order. Defintely one to keep in mind for my next big do!

I love both of those Laura Ahsley dresses, JackieNo. I think that the purple one is too high on the bust for me, but the red one is a definite contender. In fact, I think I will order it and see what it does for me!

The red Laura Ashley dress was beautiful, but just not right for me, so it has gone back.

As I cannot find anything that suits, I have decided wear an old yet gorgeous Planet dress with a new shrug. With the money 'saved' I have just bought myself a really great trouser suit in the sales down from £349 to £79

Thanks for everyone's help!
