When you are getting your "colours" done, does hair colour come into it?

Am booked to go and see someone with my mum to get my colours done in Feb half-term.

I had quite blond highlights which I have toned down a bit and which are growing out.

I am wondering whether to get them re-done before I go (will need doing by then), or stay as close as possible to my natural colour.

Do they take your hair colour into consideration?

Also, might they be able to advise what hair colour would suit me, am thinking blond is washing me out, but my mousy brown is v. unexciting and am worried going darker as I get older will accentuate my wrinkles.

I think hair is normally tied back, in towelling hair band or similar.

You perhaps have the wrong shade of blonde if you feel washed out. If you like blonde, wait until your colour 'veridct' and then get warmer/ cooler highlights as applicable.

Thanks. Yes I was wondering if I could apply the colour stuff to hair colour too - might try and wait although I am looking "greasy" already!

Had my colours done just before Christmas. My hair was not tied back but it is as similar to a colour/shade to my natural colour, with lowlights to jazz it up (going grey). I did ask what happens in the Summer as I usually go a bit lighter and was told that because she is looking the skin tone and eye colour predominately unless I was to have a major colour change I would remain Warm and Golden. I did go quite blond last year and when I toned the colour down I did get quite a few compliments. Like you I did not like the idea of a block of colour so I normally have 2 or 3 low light colours (copper, blond) through my hair with a dark blond colour for maximum grey coverage. Hope that helps and enjoy your consultation, it is great fun and I have bought some lovely new clothes in the right colours.

Natural hair colour does come into it -- if it's dyed/highlighted then I believe they are supposed to tie it back under a towel/scarf, and then can also advise on what hair colour might suit you as well.

Absolutely!

I had a CMB thingy done about- gulp- almost 20 years back. I had my hair highlighted as I do now- and it gave her problems. TBH I don't know if she was that good! She said I fell in between 2 types...and part of the problem was my hair, which natural colour is dark blonde/light brown with quite a reddish/auburn tinge, or my highlighted colour which was mixy dark honey blonde .
I think she chose light spring for my colours- but now i think they have even more subcatagories.

What it DID do was get me out of a rut of always wearing black and navy- especially near my face- and harsh brighter colours.

I ventured into more neutral shades. I now have a "palette" sounds good- of most turquoises/teals/ blues but not dark blues, greys, camels, and some purple/violet.

I have given up pink ( suit it but don't like it on older women, I am 50+), red, most beiges and peach which drains me.

I think it taught me to choose colours that suit my skin colour, rather than colours which I like, but don't suit me, IYWIM!

I've since bought Colour Me Confident ( off ebay- dead cheap) to give myself an update and it's a good book.

Ok, sounds like I need to live with my highlights growing out then !

I am looking forward to going, she said she would show how to use colour with accessories etc. too which I am rubbish about.

Am also hoping to get a bit better at mixing colours, at the moment I only know how to wear black with colour.

Any tips on how to stop my hair looking hideous with growing out highlights?

Try changing your parting jamais. Sounds illogical but works for me.

Will do, thanks Mrs S.
