I thought the 30 min ones were excellent. Can't remember full title of dvd though.

bluecheesedip · 04/01/2010 17:11

I have them all, but my favourite is still the first one - Power of 3, followed closely by High Energy 5.

LetThemEatCake · 04/01/2010 17:14

Right the one I have is the Three 30 minute workout ones. I found them quite hard - lots of cardio stuff (I'm a super unfit lardy arse) and I was knackered but revitalised after doing them. I did one every second night (when the muscle soreness wore off!!). I did it in conjunction with weight watchers and some other moderate exercise so I couldn't pinpoint weight loss exactly. But I really like them, and when I have this next baby I shall take them back up again.

TuttiFrutti · 04/01/2010 17:40

I have got them all except the newest one, Fit, which is on order. My favourite is Superbody Workout: choice of 2 basic workouts, one which is aerobics plus boxing for fitness and one which is weights for toning with interval training. Really good stuff.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 04/01/2010 17:46

I love the thirty minute ones and I have the others too including the pre and postnatal one. I like the 30 minute ones the best because they only take 30 mins (obviously!) which makes it easier to get off my arse and do them.

MrsSeanBean · 04/01/2010 22:54

Power of 3 original and probably best (imho). I find Davina quite annoying after a while but the exercises definitely work. I got the dvd out again a few days ago and had trouble going up/down stairs the following day, so it definitely worked my thighs!

OnlyWantsOneFartleBerry · 04/01/2010 22:58

I have the first 2 she brought out, fantastic!! (when you do them)

... would def recomend them, um... power of three is the best

llareggub · 04/01/2010 23:02

Oh yes, I really do recommend them. I started with the pregnancy one, did the post-natal part for a few weeks then started with Power of 3. When I got bored with that I did the Thirty Minute workouts and 8 months later I can say that they've made a real difference. When I started I could barely speak and struggled through the 1 minute fat-burning intervals. Now I can comfortably hold a conversation through them.

Which is the negative-side, really. I've got too comfortable with them so I've stopped doing them and started running instead. So they've definitely helped me reach a certain level of fitness.

TediBersMorRad · 04/01/2010 23:16

Yay, thanks for starting this thread! I've got the box set, power of 3 and the 30 minutes, and I love them.
I was getting all flabby and unfit through being under house arrest from 7pm onwards (i.e. small baby, also DH works away) and my sister, gymnast, wannabe personal trainer (she's an accountant and knows it doesn't pay!) said that DVDs are the way to go, and got me these ones. They were working, but now it's been Christmas...
The 30 mins are best because they don't take too long.

Sis says once you get used to Davina, do Nell McAndrew which is tougher. She does Nell herself.

Ronaldinhio · 04/01/2010 23:51

and when you get used to Nell use mel b's

LetThemEatCake · 05/01/2010 07:23

thanks all... I have purchased and will let you know how I get on!! Might get Nell's too as am already quite fit so not looking for a moderate workout... I generally run but it's hard to arrange, childcare-wise, and I can't bear to only exercise x1 or 2 a week.. I like the fact that the power of 3 ones will give me a bit of variety... Fingers crossed it will also give me buns of steel!!

I love those 30 mins workouts

it's (consistently) the only dvd workout I return to. I tend to only get little snatched pockets of time to exercise and it's perfect for that.

I did the cardio boxing one last night. If you are quite fit, you can make them a bit harder by bouncing throughout the boxing or just running a bit harder in the intervals.

I am super unfit and lardy after Christmas grrr!

bluecheesedip · 05/01/2010 20:46

Just came back to tell you about results. Started using the DVD's in Jan 2007 - lost 3.5 stone in 8 months and have kept it off. Her workouts have got me very toned too - I get lots of comments about my shoulders and arms in particular. I do a mix of the Power of 3/High Energy 5 3-4 times a week. And snap to the running - I sometimes do that once a week too (tho not at the moment - too bloody cold )
Good luck!

hatcam · 05/01/2010 20:57

Definitely recommend Davina DVDs but haven't tried the latest one. Am a personal trainer and her DVDs are pretty much the only ones I'd recommend. I've reviewed gazillions of exercise DVDs over the years and some are completely bogus. Davina's are v. effective and safe, and there's a switch her off option if you find her a bit much!

(I'm not one of the personal trainers in the DVD )

TediBersMorRad · 06/01/2010 11:09

Ooh, anybody fancy having a thread on exercise DVDs, or just exercise, a long-running thread? Scuse the pun! (Hatcam please come on it too!)
I feel like I've had such an epiphany with the DVDs - once I've put DS to bed I can't exactly go for a run or go to a class; I don't want to 'waste' (or pay for!) a babysitter just so that I can go to the gym; I live in a rural area; I don't have the time during working hours... so DVDs really are the answer for me. (DH works away so I'm a single parent in the week.)

I mix up the Davina ones - I really like the Pump and also Boxing from the 30 mins, but I've never done the whole of the power of 3 one (I usually skip the arms bit because I have a skinny upper body and a fat tummy!). Then I often do one, and add the abs bit from power of 3 because that's good.
And I really like Davina - she sweats, she's realistic. I had a Cindy Crawford one but that wasn't really doing it for me because to get those results I'd need a body transplant and grow 10 inches!
I'm now doing Davina in earnest, and measuring myself etc once a week to see if things change. (Thanks, bluecheese!)

Tell us some bogus ones, Hatcam! How about the 15 minute ones? My sis says they're mixed. I fancied the abs one.

stickylittlefingers · 06/01/2010 11:27

That's interesting hatcam - I had thought they were way better from an amateur pov, but good to see that a professional thinks the same way.

I have become slightly addicted to them, even though I wouldn't think of watching BB or the things DM presents. I think she's very talented at being like someone you might be friends with! I'm sure it's an art!

They're brilliant now running is only for the suicidal...

bluecheesedip · 07/01/2010 15:18

Had a look at the latest one last night - Davina Fit (got it before Christmas but was too lazy busy to start a new one over the holidays) and it's occurred to me why I like the Power of 3 and High Energy 5 so much. It's because each section doesn't have it's own warm up/cool down. I like to excercise for at least an hour and and don't need to warm up every time I do a different section, so have to fast forward and that makes it quite 'bitty'. I found the same problem with Superbody workout. Having said that, the new exercises look pretty good so will definitely be gving them a go.

hatcam · 07/01/2010 20:48

Some of the DVDs are so random, the ones that really make me die laughing are the porno dance ones....they were advertising The Pussycat Dolls workout this morning on the TV (not that I was dossing around watching telly obv, I was clearly polishing my triceps while planning my next extreme high altitude triathlon). Hilarious TV ad with the Pussycat Trolls gyrating in the name of keep fit. Excellent. Ditto that Dance Workout that's always advertised, with teenage girls doing comedy Benny Hill squats and lunges in gold lame tights.

More seriously, the worst fitness DVD I've ever reviewed/seen/tried is the Gabby Logan one, it was supposed to be suitable in pregnancy and the vast majority of the workout focused on full-on core strength and/or lying on your front (?). Hello Gabby [waves], if you're here, sorry but it was rubbish.

southeastastra · 07/01/2010 20:49

does she gurn in them, like that dance show

hatcam · 07/01/2010 20:55

Is she a gurner? Just have overwhelming memory that she took the whole thing very very very very very seriously. Yawnsome.

hatcam · 07/01/2010 20:56

Davina = massive gurning

(was wondering what dance show Gabby Logan did)

southeastastra · 07/01/2010 21:11

it's so embarassing

i would like to see a victoria wood work out video, we would stop half way for a tea and sponge finger

I have the 3 30 monute workout and they are good but she is very annoying (as always) by gurning/mugging/playing up to camera. You can switch her yapping off though and just have music playing and as long as you don't look at her much it's fine
