The screw that turned - fashion wise

I just loved what the governess wore and am now thinking I want some droopy/chiffony blouses for spring.

Also like Janeites on another thread loved the little girl's headbands.

So anyone seen any pretty blouses on their online travels?

Happy new year tracey

Can't link atvthe mo but check out lover, an aussie label, avail on nap and outnet

JaneiteQuiteRight · 31/12/2009 14:56

Warehouse usually have lovely Victorian style blouses: unfortunately they do not suit me and I just look matronly.

traceybath · 31/12/2009 15:08

Thanks and happy new year too!

Am loving this

And this very pretty too but don't think it would suit my tummy at the moment.

Have got to lose that final bit of weight - how goes you LTEC?

Yes! La Redoute , Ghost, Zara

You have to be careful with what you wear with them though - avoid looking too drippy.

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 15:12

Damn you for linking to the outnet sale - I was trying to avoid looking

VerityBrulee · 31/12/2009 16:27

Tracey, all the way through I kept focusing on the clothes not the ghosts.

When I was in uni I went through a 20s/30s phase, wore hobble skirts, pretty blouses and those fab mary janes with the shaped heel. I borrowed a lot of my granny's fitted jackets too. I am a hoarder so I'm sure it's all in boxes ion my mums attic. I am tempted to dig it all out.

Nothing like a period drama for dressing inspiration

traceybath · 31/12/2009 20:31

Glad I wasn't the only one

I think I will focus on getting a blouse and then wear it with skinnies.

Am also fancying a cameo pendant though - I so should have been born in a different era.

JaneiteIsTrite · 01/01/2010 01:50

Accessorise have cameos. DD1 is v 'into' them at the mo.

Bonsoir · 01/01/2010 08:56

You can usually buy very nice old cameos in antique markets/vintage shops - a thousand times nicer than a high street one!

I think that getting inspiration for clothes from period dramas is very dangerous... gently does it...

I watched 'Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day' last night, set in the late 30s and the clothes and interiors were sublime. All draped and bias cut crepe dresses and fabulous hair.

I don't remember much about the story but it looked beautiful. Dh has a significant soft spot for Amy Adams, and the male actors were rather handsome too.

It was interesting to see the progression of fashion, from 'Turn of the screw' in the early 20s to the late 30s. One of my dream jobs would be a costume historian in the V&A

JaneiteIsTrite · 01/01/2010 14:11

Ooh dp bought me that for Christmas! Haven't watched it yet but looking forward to it even more now. I was soooo born in the wrong era!

VerityBrulee · 02/01/2010 18:06

Tracey, inspired by this thread I got a lovely cream pintuck blouse in Monsoon, was in the sale for 39 euros, so considering the appalling exchange rate of high st store I'd say that's about 25 pounds.

I can't find it on the web site, but it's v pretty. Will wear with skinnies, boyfriend cardigan and antique locket.

LetThemEatCake · 02/01/2010 18:38

Euros??

Are you on hols VB? Hope you're having a lovely time. Happy 2010 to you!

Ps: someone bought me that pink "keep calm and carry on shopping mug" that you linked to once before. Also, can't link but finally got my 'something pink' - maniyak beanie and wristwarmers :-)

Tracey: the battery on my scales died a few weeks back and I've resisted buying a new one, more trying to go on feel of clothes. All pre-preg clothes fitting but there's definitely a ways to go. Exp with dcs 1&2 tells me it'll hang around until the intro of solids- a month or so off yet.... Did you manage restraint over Xmas or sod it?

traceybath · 02/01/2010 18:41

Ooh VB that sounds lovely.

LTEC - gained a couple of pounds but thats not too bad I guess.

Bea is over 5 months now so only 3 weeks till weaning commences - am hoping her sleeping will improve then.

I just really need to start running.

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 02/01/2010 19:28

tracey - do you use Nike+? we could be virtual running partners, might spur us both on?

VerityBrulee · 02/01/2010 19:35

Throw out the scales ladies - they are the devils work. I have had food, ahem, issues over the years and the best thing I ever did for my self esteem was get rid of those scales. If my clothes fit well I'm happy, a bit tight and I need a bit more exercise.

LTEC I live in Dublin, wish I was on hols though Happy 2010 to you and your family too. Glad that you have some pink in your life!

Went to the sales today and got the blouse and (another) breton top, but there was nothing else decent to be had, so I can happily avoid the shops for a month and do some saving up!
