Which brand of jeans? Urgent!

I've decided I need to buy a pair of jeans today (before going on holiday tomorrow morning...). I want to be totally focused about this ie I need to know which brand I am after before going shopping as I have a lot to do today, and DD with me, so no time/energy to wander around the shops.

I am 1.74, a size 10/12, and want very plain, dark, slim fit jeans that make my bottom (which tends to droop ) look rounder...

What's your budget?

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 08:41

Anything. I don't care if they cost EUR 50 or EUR 250.

and you will need to try them on so it's hard to recommend one brand, everybody is so different that what might be really flattering on one person might not on you.

I find, if in doubt, that topshop jeans never fail me, but I don't have the money to spend on more expensive brands anyway.

overmydeadbody · 29/12/2009 08:44

ok where are you? Are you Anna or another Bonsoir? What shops do you have access to?

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 08:44

Sadly cannot do Topshop as am in France. Most brands are available here but not Topshop!

I used to wear Gap Long & Lean in a size 6 (old sizes I think) and they used to suit me very well. But I have the feeling that Gap jeans aren't great any more.

7 for all mankind roxannes but got a feeling you don't like 7's.

J Brand good for dark slim fitting jeans.

Do you have TopShop in paris because baxters or marthas would be good.

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 08:45

I've never tried on brands like Acne or Seven and I want an informed opinion!

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 08:46

Not wild about 7s because of WAG factor... but I might try if you say they are really great!

Gap are crap imo. They stretch and lose their shape.

these?

overmydeadbody · 29/12/2009 08:48

I have dug up this for you

traceybath · 29/12/2009 08:49

I love my roxannes from 7 and friend has J brand.

I don't know what the department stores are like in Paris but if in London I'd just go to the premium jeans section in Selfridges and grab an assistant and try on about 15 pairs very quickly.

overmydeadbody · 29/12/2009 08:49

and yes, Gap are crap unless you are over a certain age and want to go for the plain look.

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 08:49

Oh those look quite promising! Thanks.

There are lots of brands of jeans in Le Bon Marché jeans department - I just don't want to go there without knowing what I'm supposed to be looking for!

I have a lovely pain or Diesel jeans that fit really nicely around my bum and lift it up, and the denim they use is quite thin and soft so the jeans don't make you feel all padded out and bulked up.

vorpalblade · 29/12/2009 09:02

Ah, if you used to like Gap Long & Lean before they mucked them up, try James Jeans Hector. Eyewateringly expensive but worth every penny.

But you need to try loads on. I went to Selfridges and tried on about 16 pairs before I bought mine (guided by charming assistant). The only thing I regret a bit is that he told me to buy a size smaller than I am wearing as they give, and should be quite tight. Pathetically, as I was spending so much money I was worried about not buying something uncomfortable, so I didn't listen. Next time I will buy smaller as I end up washing them lots to keep them fitted.

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 09:21

I've never heard of James Jeans Hector! Not sure if they are sold here, but will keep an eye out.

James Jeans are fab - they are around £180 here. Have you tried French Connection (not sure if you have it) - their jeans are really lovely.

CatJosephine · 29/12/2009 10:37

Sorry for thread hijack but I am in London and clueless about jeans. The ones I am wearing are too big, shapeless and v cheap.

Is it worth going somewhere like Selfridges?

southeastastra · 29/12/2009 10:38

i just got some absolutely fab black jeans from m and s. they fit like a glove but were only £12 in the sale so maybe too cheap for you

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 10:47

£12 sounds fine but no M&S in Paris anymore

OP posts:
traceybath · 29/12/2009 14:58

any joy?

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 15:37

Yes! Just back from Le Bon Marché where I bought a pair of Notify Anemone Rusty in Dark Blue. They are a teensy-weensy bit on the big side but I'm at the bottom end of my normal weight range right now, so thought I'd play safe and get a size 28.

The J Brand shelves were empty - there were only Barbie-sized 24s left. So no good. There were masses of 7s but I really didn't like the look of them, and there were no James Jeans.

Thanks, everyone .

They sound good - have a nice holiday.

Bonsoir · 29/12/2009 16:02

Thank you - it should be great, the hotel is fabulously glamorous but with zero WAG factor, and we are going with some very nice American friends and there is another French family we know staying in the same village. The children can go to ski-school and the adults can stay in bed relax!

I had a pair of Notify jeans and I wore them so much they eventually wore out!
