Emergency - fat bird needs frock for christening

I haven't been to a wedding/christening/occasion which requires me to wear something other than denim for years. I have a christening in 6 weeks and I need to get myself an outfit. I'd really like a dress, but will need to be careful cos I am round as a penny and short to boot.

Size 18-20ish, 5'2", big tummy, fat arms, chunky legs. Boobs are my good point. I can invest in long boots if need be but would rather wear massive heels and get a longer dress. I'm expecting to have to get a bolero/cardigan too. Funds are very tight.

Can you help me?!

Empire line which is good and with a little cardigan and opaques and heels could look very stylish.

This with opaque tights and heels and a little cardi in a bright colour - perhaps red cardi and red shoes?

I was thinking of empire line, but would prefer to hide more of my legs than that dress would allow, tracey, so a longer a-line sort of thing to skim over the belly would be better ... but a great start, thank you!

Possibly Ewe. I'm drawn to magenta but i think as a non-dress wearer perhaps I should stick with muted ...!

Do you have good legs Fair?

When you're short (as I am too) I'd be wary of going to long in a dress as it can look frumpy.

I would go for knee length and do opaques or boots?

What length were you thinking of?

Yep, way too short I'm afraid!

My legs suck tracey. Big huge chunky calves. I am the sort of person Gok would give up on. There's only so much boobs can make up for!

I'm fighting the urge to buy shoes first then get a dress to go with them - bad move I know but I haven't had a pair of outlandish shoes in the sales for aaaaaages!

hello FM. I 'd recommend the personal shoppers at debenhams, they really are so helpful and very quickly pull together an outfit which suits your shape and size. there is no obligation to buy. truly.
hope you manage to find something.

FM- I think the e-bay one could work,big belt under your boobs gives an empire line effect and elongates the body . With heels of course. like the littlewoods one as well - not sure if too much gathering

Having thought more about the eBay one, I think it might be a bit too clingy round the hips. I was hoping the gathering and the tulle in the plum one would skim over the lardy bits more

I am not a seasoned dress-wearer. Does it show?

sui and short, they both look like they might be a bit long for me. The Caryn Franklin one would be trailing on the ground [dwarf emoticon]

I do like the style of that Simply Be one though ...

I am still fighting the shoe lust ... it's only a bargain if you need it

FM, I got the latest Bravissimo catalogue in today and it has this dress reduced. May be worth a try?

Its just above the knee.
