Alternative to Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish?

Twirl · 27/12/2009 23:55

Does anyone have any ideas for a less expensive alternative to the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish? I love using warm muslin cloths to remove makeup and grime and I do love the LE stuff but it is a bit pricey for me at the mo. Any ideas for alternatives?

Ponds Cold Cream works pretty much the same way and is extra effective used with warm water and cloth before splashing face with cold water, as with Liz Earle routine

Tescos do a very good alternative within their Organic range. It's about £3.50 and very good. Can't remember the name of it, but you use it in exactly the same way to LE C&P.

i used the tescos one and boots botanics one a few years ago, they are really greasy and hard to remove, they are not a cream like the liz earl one.

I noticed boots no 7 have just bought one out too which i'm tempted to try next time they give out the £5 off vouchers.

Do you get the liz earl in the tube rather than the pump? because when i got to the end i snipped the tube in half and scooped out just over a weeks worth stuff inside which i made do with until my order arrived.

Maybe it depends on your skin tye - I thought the Tesco one worked really well.

Really Christiana? I'm surprised - it's got Soil Association Approval (if we're talking about the same line. I'll have to go and have a read of the ingredients.

There are loads of cheap cleansera about- BOOTS do their own brand , unperfumed, in a bottle for just over a £1,(plastic bottles, blue tops for normal skin) L'Oreal do theirs for around £3.50, and other supermarkets like Waitrose have some good own-brand stuff.

I spend £££s on moisturisers and night creams such as REN and Clinique, but find that a cheap simple cleanser removed with moist cotton wool, or a flannel, works wonders.

i use the oil cleansing method too. have saved a fortune, it really works

saltyseadog · 28/12/2009 10:10

Wow - the oil cleansing method does look great. I like the fact that it costs peanuts as well.

I love Boots Time Delay Cleanser in a big glass jar. Its an Eve Lom rip off, slightly waxy and grainy but takes off make up , including eye with a flannel or a muslin like a dream. I hardly get spots at all now. With money off vouchers for Boots its cheap too.

I love Liz Earle products too. From my perspective it's the technique that's important (massaging cleanser in, removing with hot cloth) rather than the product that you use. Although the Liz Earle cleanser is nicest, Garnier make a nice one too. It's called something like 'fresh cleansing lotion' and is green. Probably full of chemicals ... but smells nice and seems to do the job without leaving a greasy residue!

Wow, thanks so much for all the suggestions - so many options! Miche8 I do use the pump but that is a great idea snipping the tube. I'm off shopping now!

I have tried to get the tesco one but was told they no longer do it.
Boots time delay is good

I have converted to oil cleansing method too - absolutely brilliant, especially if you mix in a few drops of essential oils such as lavender, rose, chamomile etc. I use a mix of olive oil and castor oil. Originally I used a muslin cloth to wipe it off with but now I just use cotton wool pads soaked in hot water which work just as well. After I use a mix of olive oil and almond oil with essential oils such as frankincense, lavender, rose and ylang ylang as night moisturiser. I used to have really oily greasy combination skin and my skin is no longer greasy or oily. I am convinced my skin looks healthier, brighter, softer and more luminous since I started doing this which was about 2 months ago.

I've been using Lush Ultra Bland with a muslin and it is v good.
