Good or bad for a size 16, wide hipped lady?

I've been searching everywhere for a nice new coat, I wanted a grey smart coat, but have stumbled across this and I really like it! Not sure I can pull it off

tethersjinglebellend · 27/12/2009 22:05

vile, sorry...

Eddas · 27/12/2009 22:39

don't be sorry, I wanted honesty. Not sure I could buy it, it's a bit too LOOK AT ME colour wise

OP posts:
RemyMartin · 27/12/2009 22:45

I like it. Not sure it would flatter your hips though, but I'm not very good at that kind of thing. I think it would be flattering if you have a big bust though. Have you thought what you would wear it with?

tethersjinglebellend · 27/12/2009 22:48

How about this?

gigglebells · 27/12/2009 22:50

I think the same as remy, would be good on someone with big boobs () but sorry I have a horrible feeling it could be a "does my bum look big in this" moment, because I don't think the cut's that flattering.

I have to admit it's just the sort of grey coat I'd pick though

Eddas · 27/12/2009 22:52

so you should no need to be rude!

Seriously, I do LOVe the colour, but if i'm honest, not for a coat, tis a bit much.

I wear alot of black, so it would go with most of my things.

Really don't like the one in the link, I'm 31 and I look about 16 so would feel REALLY stupid wearing that!

Think i might start a new thread on where to buy a coat, I have looked online everywhere I can think of

OP posts:
gigglebells · 27/12/2009 22:52

that's nice tethers. goodness me, it's grey and everything

Cybilshoeboots · 27/12/2009 22:53

It would make you look wide, and you have ben suckered in by the price. PLUS its a mac, not a warm coat. Save your money, shop elsewhere. too much fabric over hips.

Eddas · 27/12/2009 22:54

my arse gets in the way all the time

I found the best coat ever today, but was too small It looked nice, but I couldn't do it up

OP posts:
gigglebells · 27/12/2009 22:55

well take your pick

Eddas · 27/12/2009 22:58

why do they all have funnel necks atm?

OP posts:
gigglebells · 27/12/2009 23:00

have you tried the 'tulip' shaped ones? wondered if they'd flatter your shape more?
Dorothy perkins do a few - and obv not pricey so would be ok to try out. I love the yellow duffle coat from there, but I'm a weirdo

tethersjinglebellend · 27/12/2009 23:00

What was the best coat like?

gigglebells · 27/12/2009 23:01

dunno why the funnel necks. don't like em much.

tulip thing I was muttering about here.

Cybilshoeboots · 27/12/2009 23:02

Spend as much as you can on a decent coat, one that isn't 'fashion' and won't date.

Nothing looks worse than a thin, lumpy, badly fitting coat.

TK Maxx usually have some good quality reduced ones, but you'll have to rummage for them!

gigglebells · 27/12/2009 23:04

oooh! now I think this would be flattering. (and bargainous)

alternatively you could go for the Christmas Tree Look

Eddas · 27/12/2009 23:05

i did look at the tulip ones, wasn't sure if they'd suit me or not. I think I'll have to venture into the shops. Shame

The coat I liked was just a black single breasted mac type

I describe things so well!

Thanks for the help btw ladies!

Cybilshoeboots · 27/12/2009 23:06

Brightly coloured coats look cheap. (I'm obsessed with NOt looking cheap, can you tell?)

Better off to stick to darker neutral colours, won;t date

gigglebells · 27/12/2009 23:10

Cybil is boring right
I have good old faithful long grey coat, have had it for ever ages, and it still looks classy. But for the right price a coloured one doesn't half make you feel bright in January when it's bloody miserable and depressing in every other way. Especially if you wear black/grey/navy clothes to work or whatever underneath it. they don't have to be tacky.

Eddas · 27/12/2009 23:10

that's what I want cybil, something that'll last. My current coat was bought just after dd was born. She's 5

What a really really want is a grey classic coat. I'm liking grey as it won't date (i don't think) and I have only ever had black, so it's a change but not too much!

I even looked on the Boden website

I did find a lovely coat in Beneton (that's not how that's spelt) but I didn't try it on as dh was there and it was quite expensive (for me anyway as we have very little money)

OP posts:
Cybilshoeboots · 27/12/2009 23:11

Cybil is boring classic

Cybilshoeboots · 27/12/2009 23:11

add colour with a jaunty scarf, if you must. I will search for a grey coat for you

gigglebells · 27/12/2009 23:12

cybil obviously has class

Eddas · 27/12/2009 23:15

i'm quite boring too, hence the black coats. I'm trying to be less predictable. I even had my very long hair cut into a bob the other week I think I'm having a mid-life crisis a bit early

OP posts:
Cybilshoeboots · 27/12/2009 23:16

on first viewing, this looks ZZZZ but...it's a classic shape, will not date and I guarantee you will stil be wearing it in 5 years time. Think of the £'s per wear! I have a bl;ack one virtually identical, cahmere blend soo warm
