Princess/ dress up shoes that are not death traps?

Any suggestions please?!

DD1 (3 1/2) has been given for Christmas a box of 4 pairs of those delightful plastic dressing up shoes with high heels that any little girl who loves dressing up adores.

However they're bloody lethal - she can barely walk in them without turning her ankle and the soles are so slippery I'm worried she's going to slip over on our laminate and tiled floors and crack her head open

I have now confiscated them resulting in an almighty tantrum and am now, apparently, going to be turned into Daddy with a willy and everything .

Without wishing to get into a Suri Cruise related debate about whether they should or shouldn't be allowed to wear heels at 3 1/2, has anyone's dd been given a pair of flat (ish) dressing up shoes for Christmas - and if so where did they come from? Need to replace deathtrappy shoes post haste! Thank you

I agree those shoes are a bloody deathtrap/accident waiting to happen. Ours strangely disappeared out of the dressing up box one night and haven't been seen since.......

I find lots of children's retailers do girls party shoes which are suitable for dressing up - bought the dd's some red patent (plastic natch) flat mary janes from H&M for parties/playing recently, think they were £5.99 or £6.99. They also had ballet style flats comprised entirely of glitter which my dd's loved. Other places that have them are GAPkids, Monsoon (on sale at minute) and the Disney store.

DD has a pair that are low-ish, from somewhere cheap, I forget where but possibly asda.
Best alternative are cheap glittery ballet pumps from primark or similar.

I second that - think I bought some silvery glittery pumps from either mothercare or h and m in the sale - they were a tad big but as they were just for dress up it didn't matter too much.

Try one of the cheap shoe shops.
Shoe Zone, Priceless Shoes and the like.

I do buy DD's shoes from there, the ordinary ones though but they always seem to stock something pink, and I'm sure I saw sequinned pink ballet pumps last time I was in.

I think Suri wears children's ballroom dancing shoes which have a proper sole to them. Might be worth a try if you on't want a willy.

MrsBadger · 27/12/2009 17:48

yy if you DO want a bit of a heel ballroom or tap shoes (with no taps) are ace but they have buckles and are hard to get on by yourself

eg these or these

shop around though, should be much cheaper

MrsBadger · 27/12/2009 17:49

£12

you can get flamenco shoes with a small heel, they usually come in red or pink.

dd would adore a pair if she knew they existed!

Quiltedrose · 27/12/2009 20:36

Oooh great ideas thank you, am loving the ballroom and flamenco shoes ideas

I wasn't thinking of pumps to begin with as was trying to avoid the buying of shoes which are a particular 'size' but if you really can get them for just a few ££ then perhaps it's worth me having a look in the sales in the cheapo shops?

Cheers ladies knew I could count on you in my hour of need Who wants a willy, hey? (btw I confiscated the fairy wand too, just in case)
