Will a Clarins Counter Swap

Bathsheba · 26/12/2009 11:08

My MIL has bought me a large bottle of Clarins Toner.

I don;t use toner...I certainly don;t use toner without matching cleanser.

I has a number of Clarins counters locally - I have NO IDEA where she got the product from (I suspect a supermarket or chemist the fact that it seems like a random thing, rather than a "consultant advised" purchase)...wou d a Clarins counter swap it for something I want and would actually use-- another product...

I have no problem accepting store credit for it rather than getting hard cash back.

It also came with 2 tiny 5 ml boxes of night cream and day cream - would I be right in assuming these were freebie samples rather than being purchsed? Would I need to return these too (I'd use these so I could keep them but its not really a problem to return them)

I dont know, but i would personally feel a bit cheeky going to a Clarins counter and asking for an exchange when you dont know where she bought it from originally

Why dont you just buy some matching cleanser and use it?

brimfull · 26/12/2009 11:30

why wouldn't you use without matching cleanser , that's ridiculous

Just use it or give it away.

FolornHope · 26/12/2009 11:31

i htink you are being un petit peu d'une ponce

VinegarTinselTits · 26/12/2009 11:32

Yes i agree with ggirl, you dont need matching cleanser, just use it, Clarins is good stuff

TinselianAstra · 26/12/2009 11:34

I'm not sure if they would swap a cosmetic unless there is some kind of hygiene tag so they can tell if you have opened it or not.

I don't really get toner either.

Bathsheba · 26/12/2009 12:39

Well the reason I wouldn't use it without matching cleanser is that I've always been taught that toner exists to remove the last traces of cleanser after you have wiped the cleanser off with cotton wool...

I don't use that type of cleanser (cotton wool cleanser as we'll call it which you need toner to follow), I use wash off cleanser as I find that makes my face cleaner (I use double wear foundation and as its so long lasting it needs something to make sure its off)...and the water and hot cloth that I use with that negates the need for toner.....

So basically what I have here is step 2 of a specific cleansing routine, without step 1..

Meaning I either need to buy step 1 (which seems like quite an expense just to use step 2)...or swap it for something I would use...I'd gladly swap it for some Clarins wash off cleanser.....I know Clarins is good stuff which is why I'm very happy to swap it for something else in the range....

Its all still sealed in the box - I specifically haven't opened it so that the option was there...I have returned Estee lauder foundation in the same state when my DH picked up the wrong colour - he picked it up in the airport whereas I swapped it happily for the right colour in my local Boots.

it wont make any difference what brand you use

MollieO · 26/12/2009 12:44

Either ask your MIL where she got it from and say that you need to exchange it or give it to a friend.

Sounds as if you use Eve Lom. I do that and sometimes I use toner and sometimes I don't.

Bathsheba · 26/12/2009 12:45

Maybe its just me then...I know this was expensive stuff and I'd far rather have an expensive product that, well, I use than something that I don't ordinarily use and will need to change the way I do things to use...

A large bottle of toner seems strange, slightly random and out of context to me but maybe not to others...

I think it's a weird gift, as you said it's step 2 without step 1, and if it's properly sealed the counter should have no problem exchanging it.

If MIL asks you can just say that it wasn't right for your skin type so you swapped it for something similar that you find works better.

I work on a beauty counter and we wouldn't usually swap something without proof of purchase, especially as some customers buy 2 things to get a free gift and then try and return 1 of them.
I a not suggesting for a minute that you are not genuine, but as this happens quite frequently we tend to stick to the rules. We do always offer a gift receipt that doesn't show the price if the customer says their purchase is for a gift so that it can be returned easily.
