over the last few months, I've had an increasingly bad problem with hives, have realised now that it is linked to cold, it does improve if I wrap up warmly. However, I get itchy and irritated with synthetics and also wool quite often, and hate getting over-heated, so usually wear cotton layers. this obviously isn't warm enough

can you recommend really cosy socks, therms etc that are natural fabrics, not itchy, and look good?

thanks

I'd second the cashmere suggestion.

I have some cashmere socks which I love and are very toasty.

The Autograph range at M&S have dome pretty thermals-grey with lilacy lace hem.

socks I am sure I saw these elsewhere recently, and they got good reviews.

AnInginAneAnA · 24/12/2009 00:23

I usually wear a thin cotton sock with a thicker sock on top.

Second the M&S thermal vests...they are amazing. Also agree with double layer of socks. I spend most of my working day on building sites with little weather protection, so when I say the M&S vests and double sock layer keeps me warm, it is a recommendation to consider seriously

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 24/12/2009 11:38

M & S vests are brilliant, but think they have polyester in. I like white stuff socks.

hohoholepew · 24/12/2009 11:41

I have the M&S thermal cami and their thermal socks. I actually got a thermal vest in Ethel Austin this week and it's the sofest, cosiest one ever. If you have room in your shoes/boots I'd put some insoles in, I use Birkinnstock because I've got dodgy arches but you can get the sheepskin type as well.

NorkilyChallenged · 24/12/2009 11:43

Hohoholepew - you can get sheepskin insoles? Seriously? Where from? That's a brilliant idea.

Wish I had known about this when dp was asking what to get me for Christmas!

hohoholepew · 24/12/2009 11:48

I got a pair from our local shoe shop.

hohoholepew · 24/12/2009 11:49

here's some

Genius!

Thank you so much (ridiculously over-excited about this!)

Uniqlo- Heat Tech- not natural fabrics but warm, wash well and stylish.

I like the look of the Autograph range of thermals, I have the vest which is a silk blend and both pretty and warm.
Have just ordered a few others bits from the range so am hoping they are good too, some are on offer too, perhaps will be further reduced in the sales.

MostHighlyFavouredLady · 25/12/2009 16:47

www.belladinotte.com have quite sexy-looking thermals made from natural fibres - and not all in boring white or cream.

Also www.patra.co.uk whose styles are more basic but all made of natural fibres.

And there's a company who produce clothing for eczema sufferers whose name escapes me atm, but maybe someone else will remember.

Stay away from the high-tech 'wicking' fabrics and anything polyester if you're sensitive.
